Sound Deadening Rear of Car
« on: April 12, 2022, 07:18:19 AM »
I decided to redo some of my interior and quiet things down some inside the car.  Also install new parts that have been on the shelf too long.

Out with the interior.

Killmatt on rear seat divider and sail panels.  I already added material under the carpet so it stays in place.

I've added it sparingly on mine, at least in some areas, doubled up in others. Even with the trunk divider board in place didn't want any of it visible at any angle. But that rear seat/trunk divider, parcel tray and inner roof panel are all good areas to add some thud to. There's actually a board liner between the roof shell and inner structure, not sure if it breaks down or is too thin but can have extra poked in around edges to stop those layers vibrating as well.

I wanted to stay as close to factory specs on my 77 build and used the factory style sound deadener. Which was about like 30lb felt paper. BIG mistake. Cant hardly hear myself think driving it. I did use the extra thick mat on the inside of the wheel wells and the trunk divider panel.  I plan on doing a bit more the next time around.

I've had good experience with the killmatt product in my daily driver 2004 Silverado.
Truck has Kooks long tube headers and Gibson 3" exhaust. It's like riding in a Cadillac now.  But outside the truck is another story.
