T Top Roof swap

I just saw that Jegs is now offering a T Top roof for 79-81 F Bodies. I am curious about how good of a reproduction part this is. I was thinking about a T Top swap on my 79 Trans Am for a while but still keep it on the back burner for a future project.

Just curious  about any thoughts on a roof swap and the Jegs T Top roof.
Thanks,
Jim

Interesting. I’d be more concerned about where to get the T Tops themselves, the trim, seals etc.

Thats a good part to reproduce. I suppose like a lot of stuff finding an original roof will be hard to come by one of these days. I would think it would be good for one that may be rusted pretty bad, I suppose it would do just fine on its own as well for a swap. I like my t tops but I doubt I would take a hard top car and convert.

Agreed great idea to finally reproduce this.  Out of curiosity any reason it wouldn’t fit a 77?

Well, it's skin only, so I guess my take would be "how bad could it be?" but also I don't see it saving you much work.  Installing that over all the other pieces would be a lot of time.  Fabbing pieces to fix one ought to be quicker and you'd have a $700 head start.

Having done a roof swap there are some things I found out. Not all of the openings for the glass are the same. I have 6 pairs of Fisher T tops and I tried all of them in the roof I swapped onto my Formula  (which was a T Top car but very rusty) and only the original glass to the roof fit the best. It made me wonder if the chrome trim was put on the glass and adjusted to fit the openings to maintain a consistent gap.

I've been thinking about doing the same thing to my 79 T/A when I get it repainted. Classic Industries and National Parts Depot sell that roof skin as well. I bought some Fisher t-tops off a buddy of mine he had as spares since I figured that would be the hardest parts of a top swap to find if I decide to go through with it. A restoration shop told me to find a good donor top if possible to save some money, but that the repro is a great alternative.
