4L60e/4L80e transmission with aPontiac engine

Just curious if anyone has put a 4L60 or 4L80 transmission on a Pontiac motor. I have seen the transmission computer modules and see that Quick Time offers a bolt on bell housing for BOP engines.  I wanted to get info to see if this would be another transmission option for Pontiac engines.

If you are staying with an auto trans, I would go right to the 4L80e. Too much torque for the 60e to handle. I'm not sure that there is a better auto trans option out there to be honest. You could also look at the 6L80e too, but that's a big transmission.

Not quite.   I had a mildly built 200-4R behind a a mild 462.  It held up fine, even with track time (very low 14's).  I do regret selling the combo and going to something else.  It drove well with 3.55 cogs out back, returned 17 mpg on the highway, 14 in town.

I don't have any experience with a 4L60 or 4L80.

I found this from Art Carr on the 200-4R. The advantage it has a universal bellhousing and will work with either BOP or Chevy engines. It does not require an electronic shift controller. Depending what car you are installing into, some of the newer and larger transmissions may have clearance issues with the transmission tunnels.

I'm interested in doing the 4L80 also. Seems that it's a pretty easy modification nowadays with the new crossmembers and adapters etc.

I too went with a 200r4 or 200-4r because it is a direct bolt up to a Pontiac 400, no drive shaft changes, etc. The only thing is the transmission mount needs to be moved a bit. I had it rebuilt to handle up to 600hp and it works great. It came out of a 1985 Grand National.  I considered this tranny because of the ease of installation.

Something to think about.

I used a 200 4R on my Lemans . I really liked the transmission and works well. I may go that option with my new project car. Im very curious though how well a 4L60e would work as an option. Having the computer controlled transmission to set shift point and lock up I think could be pretty cool.

Critter has one in that Super Duty with the vinyl top.  At least I think so.  His threads on it wiped of course.

Not particularly an automatic fan myself, but my truck has a 4L80, and it shifts beautifully. The programming is superb from the factory. And with a 3.73 rear, it still cruises nicely at 70-75. Course it's behind a 6.2 diesel, and was a military issued GMT-400 stakebed, but the possibilities do exist. Just need to get past the bell-housing.

A buddy of mine had a ("cough cough") Camaro drag car, and broke quite a few bellhousings before getting his problem squared away. Altho the problem was alignment, (not the bell), he opted for one of those "Super-Bells". If you know anything about them, you cut off your original from the case, and the aftermarket housing bolts to the frt pump. (not a fan of that either), but he didn't have any problems. Then again, he didn't use it very long, B4 he spent mega bucks on a race P/G. (Gross).

Point of the story, wonder if there's a "Super Bell" with a Poncho pattern, to a 4L80 tranny? (I seriously doubt it)
