Vegas vacation
« on: November 21, 2021, 06:39:53 PM »
For our 25th anniversary we decided to go to Vegas. I have been there at least 20 times on business but I never took the time to do anything other than work. My wife never been there so it was a good choice. To my disappointment the Hoover dam was closed (no dam tours) but still we (I) wanted to see it.

I am not a gambler but enjoy the shows and food in Vegas. I think the Hoover Dam tour was shut down for a while after 911.We were fortunate to go before. When you are down at the bottom, standing over the tubes where the water is flowing towards the turbines and feeling the vibration it’s hard not to be impressed. It quite an engineering achievement even by today’s standards.

 Beautiful pictures, thanks for posting!

Sounds like a fun time Jack. I have been there twice, wouldnt mind going back. One time was solo riding my motorcycle the other with my wife. I did the dam tour and it was quite interesting. When I was there they were still building the bypass bridge. I have pics somewhere of the arches started on each side.

My brother went out there this past summer, and he loved it. He went to the new Raiders stadium, and darn that thing is impressive! He got me a Raiders shirt directly from the source, but it feels funny wearing it in Patriots land.

Looks like you had fun! Congratulations on 25 years!

The mine was in the middle of nowhere but the owner was a hoarder but had some cool junk. This plane was from a movie that 7 scenes where shot there, they blew up the plane but left it there.

Congrats on 25 Years!
Thanks for sharing the Vega pics.  My wife and I went there for my 30th Bday, then again for 50th (just this past summer).
We had a great time both times.  I'm not a big gambler, but we do like playing some games in the Casino when we are in AC or Las Vegas.   There's so much to see and do there you don't need to spend much time gaming. In fact, this last trip to Vegas we ended up about a hundred bucks at the end of 5 days there.

Did you go to the Neon Museum?  If you like history a little, and/or you like the look of neon signs the Neon Museum is a great way to spend an evening in Las Vegas.

Congratulations again to your and your wife.

Congratulations on the anniversary! Thanks for sharing those pics with us. I've been to Vegas about 4 times and back in 2007 or '08, we went to Hoover darn. They were working on rerouting the highway so that traffic did not go through Hoover Dam. This was in June and the temperature was 117*! You could feel the heat radiate from the darn. My lips felt huge...like two sizzling sausages!

Congrats to you and your wife on the 25th.

We took a family trip to Vegas when my youngest son turned 21.  We took the bus tour to the dam.  My wife and kids were into the gaming but we bought tickets to several shows.  The Linq hotel actually had a car museum in it.  A quick searched found it closed a few years ago.
https://vitalvegas.com/auto-collections-linq-close/

We also went to the atomic test museum.  I thought it was pretty cool. https://nationalatomictestingmuseum.org/visit/

Fremont Street was pretty cool too. I believe it was the “old strip”.

We stayed at the Ling (Imperial Palace back when we stayed) and coyld use our room key to access the auto museum on the 4th/5th floor.  They all had prices on them, in case someone hit it big and wanted a cool ride, I suppose.  That was the best part about the hotel, that and the fact that we could get on the Vegas Monorail right at our hotel.  It was one of the stops back then, not sure if it still is.

Correct, nice place especially during the winter.
This was the third state I visited within the last two weeks. I had forgotten how much I hate traveling for work on my own.

I spent a few days motorcycling in that part of the country. Beautiful riding. Also stopped at a few road side bbq's that were pretty good. Only place (with the exception of a farm in chester co pa) that I have seen long horn cattle. I was surprised to see road side stands selling the horns. I wanted to get a set and mount on the hood of my truck but they wouldnt fit on the bike

I love going to Vegas but I'm not a gambler. There's plenty of other things to do there. That's too bad the museum at the Imperial Palace...or Linq closed, I loved going to look at the Duesenbergs there.

No trip to Vegas is complete for a car guy without going thru the Shelby factory and museum just south of the strip. I was there a couple months ago and they had a couple cars from Ford vs Ferrari (Aston Martin & GT40) on display, not to mention a bunch of Mustangs and Cobras.

That's awesome you got to get an anniversary get away, congrats on 25 years!
