Today I... "Redux Edition"
« on: February 10, 2021, 03:52:27 PM »
Well, given the state of things and my dire need to share things in search of approval and love it's nigh time for a replacement thread.

Anywho...

Cleaned up and installed! :)  I'll adjust my seat after a break.

Thanks Kerry and Luke!  They're super comfortable too, way more give to them than the leather.

Thanks Ryan!  Haha that's just the package name(Leather Sport, IIRC), but hopefully it'll have a LS V8 eventually.  That's the one part I don't love about the car, as the factory motor is just alright; there's nothing special about it at all, it's just there and moves the car reliably.  It's enough for me as I'm not a speed demon, but still I feel it lets the rest of the car down.

Kinda like my 82 firebird. Car looked great. But with a V6 it could barely pass a urine test!
I had a buddy with a Shelby Charger (does anyone remember those?) that was always challenging me to race. I just told him I didnt want to embarrass him. I dont think he really knew how doggy my car really was

A friend of mine had a Charger, it looked good but that's about it. It was a 4 cylinder go cart.

I'm curious, Casey; I think Miata's are interesting cars, but isn't the idea behind the Miata that it's a perfectly balanced sports car, 50/50 weight distribution, etc?  It seems to me that it would be hard to maintain that after installing an LS V8 and a drive train that would handle its torque.

Maltese, I too thought the same about Miata's.  The original concept was a throw back to the old school Brit sports cars. Light, inexpensive, well handling car. Not going to win a drag race but great on the course.

Between the conversion subrame, engine, transmission,  driveshaft, differential, etc... the balance isn't thrown off much; 53/47 vs 52/48.  The whole 50/50 thing is a technicality, with a driver and passenger the car is 50/50.  All in all a LS swap is a weight gain of around 200 pounds.

Though these days the Honda K20/24 is also all the rage, actually lose a bit of weight going that route and the engine is the only part of the drivetrain that has to change.

Casey the seats look good in there

Not today:

Yesterday, I was able to take a spontaneous snowmobile trip out to my folks place and back which took about 1.5 hrs worth of driving on mostly groomed trails. Nothing too exciting other than my old girl being able to keep up to the newer machines without too much trouble.

This is only my second trip this year as we haven't had very much snow, and the stuff we did get melted, strangely enough. The idea is to get out often as I can before it all melts for the year which really is by the end of March.

Last weekend the family went on a round trip that took us about 3 to 4 hrs to accomplish!

lots of fun!

With the short stint of warm weather here in Ohio, I reached in and turned the key and my TA came to life in half a second. Man, I am so glad I did the LS swap. I did check the oil an trans fluid but it is so nice to just jump in and go. I drove her all over my small town the other day. What a great combination, 70s style, today's heart. Hope some of you were able to get out and enjoy the last few days, it was mid 60s here.

Haven’t posted in a few weeks, but I have been keeping pretty busy with car stuff. My current project , the 72 Firebird is in paint jail right now for another 2 weeks. Since it went to paint jail , I moved into a different shop space. I moved into a bigger space which I have been really happy with so far. It is given me a chance to clean up and reorganize everything which really equates into a lot of work.

Last week I went to Orlando, Florida to visit with my nephew. He is every much of a car guy as I am. He did a custom job on a mini-Cooper convertible, which I thought was pretty cool. Essentially he want to make a fused version of a Jeep and a Mini. I got to look it over and I was quite impressed by his work. Turned out to be a really fun little car.

We spent two days working on another project he started and that was a V8 swap on a Jeep TJ. The donor was a 2005 Dodge Dakota with a 4.7liter engine. Apparently Jeep and Dodge are sorta similar as far as the swaps go. We pulled the front clip off the Dakota and pulled the motor and transmission out fairly easy.
I’m not sure what kind of challenge my nephew has ahead but certainly if all goes well , he will have a pretty cool Jeep!
