Remember when.....
« on: November 24, 2023, 05:17:01 PM »
I was cleaning out the pocket on the door panels and found these two items:

When was the last time you could get a Whopper Jr., Fish Sandwich and Large fries for $3.14 and tax is .05 on the dollar?

All that and a quart of motor oil for 99 cents.  Thanks for the saddening memory.

Ya, I sound like my grandparents now a days as I'm constantly saying things like, " I remember when wiper blades we $1.99" or complaining how much a paintbrush costs.... I was telling guys at work how you used to by wiper inserts and change those instead of the whole blade. They looked at me like I was from outer space... I'm not that old! I'm 45....

My other hobby is RC airplanes. Recently I went through some magazines from the 70’s and 80’s. Everything was so much cheaper, the only thing that has come down in price is the radio equipment. A high quality radio system was $350-$500 in the late seventies and eighties. New radio equipment and electronics are light years ahead in capability and reliability.
Looking back always provides an age reality check!

I have a brother that has been into RC planes big time for most of his adult life. Through him I have seen lots of changes. From glow fuel to electric and now some of his club members with very high dollar jet powered aircraft. What impresses me is the skill set required to proficiently pilot these aircraft.

Going back to the original post, when 16 years old I could fill up my 65 GTO with a five dollar bill and get some change back.

My experience with model aircraft was with Cox. Had a string on it that you moved in a big circle to fly it. Never could get it to go right. Also had a Cox dragster. Kinda the same thing. It ran on a string that you would nail down to the road. It was almost as much fun just getting the motor running and listening to the whine.

Luke, My pet dinosaur died when I was just a kid, sure miss him

Funny, I also had those cox toys. That plane was a finger chopper! I think I still have scars from it!  Amd the dragster was fun to how far you could get it to straight down. The road...
