Street truck build I've been doing recently
« on: November 12, 2021, 05:50:44 PM »
I've been toying around with the idea of building a street truck for a while now. I've had tons of lifted trucks, but never built a street performance oriented truck. I decided it had to be a regular cab, stepside Chevy/GMC.

I found this 2000 Sierra on marketplace down in CT. Seller said it was fresh up from Jacksonville Florida. It is by far the cleanest truck I've ever seen. It's legitimately as clean underneath as a 2021. I couldn't believe the shape it was in, so I bought it and drove it over 150 miles back home. It's a pretty rare setup, especially up here in the north east. Factory V8 2wd, power windows and locks. Not a stripped down work truck.

First order of business was dealing with the cooked paint. I picked up a new cowl hood, and began stripping the truck down. It's so nice dealing with a truck that's totally rust free! It's currently at the shop, and should be finished soon. It's already jammed out in color.

I have the suspension and wheels waiting for it when it returns. Going with a 4/6 drop on GMC 20" snowflake wheels. I really wanted to go with a 5/7 on 22s, but with the truck being a stepside, I cant risk cracking a bedside so I went the slightly more responsible route. I also grabbed a full interior out of an Escalade, including a dash and steering wheel.

I'll post up more pics as I make progress.

Yeah, I haven't been on here in a while. Been staying busy I guess

I did pick up another T/A recently. It's a 77 W72 Y82. Found it way up in Maine. Was about 500 miles round trip. The previous owner had all the stripes hand painted, including the hood bird. The center of the bird is all gold leaf. It's pretty cool.

lol I was actually bouncing around the idea of a turbo, but I'm thinking of a simple heads, cam, intake deal. I already have a set of long tubes and a catless y-pipe for it.

Well if you do end up going with a turbo, better start shopping for a 4L80e because the 60 won't cut it.

It's a mighty little 4.8

I have a 6.0 sitting around that I'm tempted to put in, but I kinda want to see how much I can get out of the 4.8.

The body work is chugging along.

Indeed!

My wife and I picked up an '02 Silverado 2wd, extended cab with a 4.8 earlier this year for our son who turned 18. The truck was babied all its life and in excellent condition with only 110K. Anyway, the little 4.8 is no slouch...it really moves the full size truck well.

H/P doesnt mean a lot to me. I want a car that can get out of its own way and a truck that will pull a trailer when needed. In todays climate I would vote for what motor gets the better gas mileage.

Usually I don't bother, but I knew this truck was gonna be black the second I bought it, so I registered it as black before I painted it

Shes pretty close to being finished. Got the Escalade interior installed, finished the drop, got the new wheels and tires mounted, and my headlights came in so I wired those up. I still need to paint the mirrors and tailgate handle bezel, but I couldn't help taking it down the street and getting some pics.

I also mounted a front lip off an 05-06 Tahoe, just incase the truck wasn't low enough, but it's pretty darn low lol.

Next up is an alignment, and an immediate trip to the tint shop. After that I got a set of long tube headers with a catless y-pipe going on.

Oh yeah. I searched far and wide for a rust free 2wd stepside with a V8. I dont see myself getting rid of it anytime soon!

I have an appointment with my tint guy next week. As long as it doesn't snow, I'll be there. The second they salt the roads, its going in the garage under a cover until the spring.
