2002 Trans Am convertible top
« on: May 15, 2021, 09:18:50 AM »
I have tried for days to isolate the problem with my convertible top. It will not go down or up and I already have replaced the folding top switch. By using a meter I can probe the circuit and I have a good drawing to go by but none of it makes sense so far. There is supposed to be a folding top relay which is now suspect but I cannot locate it. My next step is to bypass all circuitry and apply the 12 VDC directly to the motor to see if it is bad. The motor did ohm good so I believe it is in good shape. Any suggestions?

I don't think it'll hurt it to run the pump to run it with direct power, the way it's designed.  You swap polarity to run it the other way.

This is for a 2000 but surely it's the same.

The relay is just to shut it off when you're not in park.  Looking at the wiring diagram, the relay knocks out the ground wire at the switch.  Since the motor is reversible, the switch has to hand off both power and ground.

Folding top relay is behind right side of dash.

I found the problem. It was the connector to the convertible top switch. I found something I could use on Rock Auto. Thanks for all of the information.
