1980 Trans Am Front End Re-build Kit?
« on: April 21, 2021, 12:29:19 PM »
Another question as i am moving forward with my build.
The front sub frame is getting sandblasted as well speak.
I took the whole thing apart to make it easier for painting.
I have a question about re-building the front end.
I don't want to buy every bushing and bolt individually so is there a nice kits that i can get that will have everything i need to put the front end back together.

Can i also get a bolt kit for the front and rear inner metal bumpers?

Let me know
Thanks

mmm, I'm not sure there is a kit out there  :-?

When I did mine, this forum was nice enough to help me put together a complete parts list and I ordered it all at once from RockAuto.
Unfortunately that post is now gone.

I know you don't want to go this route.......

Energy suspension is my suggestion. I have it it my 79 T/A.  the kit did upper and lower A-arms, sway bar ends and pivots. Came in 1 box. Get new shocks and the body mounting kit as well , energy suspension also.  New ball joints are a must, get them at your favorite auto parts store. Next is replace the front coil springs, I believe I used moog springs. if your re-doing the rear springs, Eaton springs are the way to go.   I did all of this on my car.
edit: the sway bar mounts sold separately now-a-days.

I went with Proforged #101-10019 upper and #101-10049 lower ball joints.  They also make a .5-" taller ball joint #101-10020 for improved front end geometry.  I also used their #104-10369 tie rod ends.  I found their quality to be superior to Moog.  They have a strong following with the pro-touring crowd.

For control arm bushings, I highly recommend Delrin.  I used Global West, but Ridetech also offers a set.  Eliminates cracking, squeaking, and won't alter spring rate.

If you haven't replaced your subframe bushings,  now's the time, PTFB, Global West and Detroit Speed all have excellent products that improve chasis stiffness with no increase in ride harshness.

I have since looked into this and Ames does offer a complete rebuild kit with Moog components. Def cheaper than buying all of the individual stuff. I have been told that the moog stuff is as good or better than stock. Im not going to race, or auto cross, heck probably wont put more than 2,000 a miles a year on my car so this set should suit me.  My guy did say I should swap out coil springs at the same time though.
