Title: Replace broke dipstick tube without removing motor.
Post by: DirtyWhite77 on September 12, 2021, 07:50:22 PM
Got a 72 400 in 77 trans am. It was originally a ac motor so it has the dipstick coming above the passenger valve cover but the PO installed a set of tall MT covers and it seems like they broke the dipstick tube off about 1.5 inches out of the pan. It’s broken right st the double thick part just under the top of the outermost tube. I understand the dip sticks are in 3 pieces.

Is there any way i can install another dipstick leading to an appropriate location that I can mark the full lines myself WITHOUT removing the pan and the engine?

This same car leaks out front trans seal and needs a torque converter, so instead of just removing the trans I could remove the engine with it.

The piece that goes through the block about the oil pan? You will need to at a minimum pull the pan to replace it. It is pressed in from the crank case and it's removed by pressing it back into the crank case.
