Title: 1981 bucket seat comfort. Do you feel the metal frame slider?
Post by: crazyTAlover on June 29, 2021, 08:59:54 AM
I have an 81 Trans Am. I have changed the seat foam and the square spring set. Problem I have is I still feel the frame track sliders. It's like riding the track going down the road. Does anyone else experience this problem? I've added about 2" extra higher density foam between the tracks as a the seat spring and still feel the track just less painful now. Is it my weight I'm 245lbs? Butts about 13" wide.

No, haven't had that problem. But then, I'm not your size either :) .

You're not really that heavy.  How about the coil springs in the back that pull the foam up?  What kind of shape are they in?  You could try to get more pull there.

It seems like to me the wires are not a good design to hold up foam.  They should have put something solid on top of the wires and then the foam on top of that.

My seats had the bases redone with a canvas type panel prior to me owning them, no springs or wires in the actual bases, just the few at the very back keeping it all taught. Nice and comfy, although not much support as with all these. Agree, you're not that big, something not right with the rest of it regardless of extra foam.
