Title: 1980 Trans Am T-TOP Weather Stripping
Post by: d_hache on May 07, 2021, 06:20:06 AM
As some of you might know i am in the process of restoring a 1980 Trans Am.
I have a question about T-TOP weather stripping.
I know that there are many companies that sell them like Classic Industries etc but the problem with that is that i am in Canada.
Paying US money, shipping and the duty charges i pay twice what you guys pay in the US by the time it gets here.

So my question is have you ever seen these come up on Amazon?  I ask because i was able to get the door seals (weather-stripping) on Amazon but not seeing the TTOP seals.
When i get parts in Amazon i pay Canadian dollars and most of the time no shipping cost.
Let me know
Thanks

I bought metro molded for my TA project. It fit well. Consider getting the strip on the t top itself.  I did not and now realize that the set on the old rubber will make sealing at the top of the window difficult when compared to the new rubber.

Hey Rambler Racer, what do you mean by ''Consider getting the strip on the t top itself''
I am not sure what that is?

There are a couple of pieces that go on the t top. There is a thicker foam type that seals the top of the window and a flat rubber piece that is more of a drip cap sort of thing. I got those pieces from Steele rubber. They were comparitively priced and steele has a good reputation.

Glad to see you found something available in Canada.
I just wanted to add my $0.02 (USD) about T-Top weather stripping...
I'm about 90% sure I used SoftSeal weather stripping in my '81.  (I'm not 100% sure 'cause I purchased it as a 'kit' from F-Body Warehouse.)  I would not use this same brand again and couldn't recommend it based on my experience.  One of the problems I've experienced is because there's a seam about 1" from the joint where it turns up the front side of the T-Top.  The seam is not smooth at all, and when water runs down around the little channel it can seep in there.
I should mention I purchased my set back in 2016.  It's possible F-Body Warehouse uses a different Mfg. in their kits today.

Let us know how you like the Metro seals. And if you get any pics of the seams it might be interesting to compare those vs. the SoftSeal's I have.

Good luck!
