Ceriglass glass polish?
« on: November 27, 2024, 12:30:57 PM »
Wow, this section is awfully hush! Both door glasses have the infamous scratch because of the guides. Looking to attempt to buff em out with glass polish. Anyone here who has used Ceriglass/cerium oxide to polish glass? If it works, it sure beats shopping for new glass.

I’ve never tried but from what I’ve read anything you can catch your fingernail on is too deep to fix. Which sucks because I have two drivers side windows that could be fixed one of which is perfect with the exception of one spot about 1.5” wide

There was a long winded discussion on the AACA forum about polishing glass. A couple of guys that worked in the glass industry chimed in. The general consensus was that you can shine it up a little but as far as polishing scratches anything over the slightest mark will be almost impossible to do. B-Hill is correct, if you can catch a fingernail on it, chances are its too far gone. I talked to my glass guy several years ago and he told me the same, also if you do polish you want to keep the heat to a minimum.

Glass polish is for making shiny again, cleaning and buffing the surface haze. In order to remove the tiniest scratches you would end up with ripples and waves. Obviously they don't say this, 99% of their market sales are for those trying to do something it won't do.

Good to be skeptical. Even having watched several youtube videos did not convince me. Good to ask you guys, as your answers confirmed my skepticism. Thank you.
