Buzzing Sound At Wiper Motor
« on: November 11, 2024, 06:47:51 AM »
1979 Tenth Anniv. 400 - Finally got my motor running. All gauges working fine etc. However when I was trying to start there was an annoying buzzer sound. I thought it may have been the seat belt warning but it sounded like it was coming from the wiper motor. I unplugged it and the buzzing stopped. It is not a noise like a stuck motor trying to move but a buzz. Any ideas?

Does it operate? Might be the parking module/set up, separate to the wiper action. But no idea if normally makes a noise.

Without doing any research, just a quick thought. Looking back at photos of your wiper motor, you have the washer pump integrated into the wiper motor.

There are two sets of wires going to the motor. One drives the wiper motor and one energizes a solenoid for the washer pump. I would try pulling each set of wires off individually to see which is causing the buzzing. I am kind of thinking it's the two wires that energize the solenoid. If that's the case, I wonder if the wash button on the wiper switch is stuck.

In the meantime, I would make sure you keep the battery disconnected until this problem is resolved. Actually a good idea anyway for now.

When I started the car a bit ago, as soon as I turned on the key the first thing that happened was the wipers going into park mode (I think?) Since then I have installed a new to me pulse wiper switch. I was wondering if the new switch may be bad? I unplugged an left the connector off for the mean time. I have the column apart right now putting in a new turn signal switch, I hope to get it finished tomorrow, at that time I will plug the pump back in and see if the wipers work.
