Clutch fork return spring

Good afternoon . Question for the group. I need to replace my clutch fork return spring. The GM part number is 332521. The original spring with that part number is 10 -1/2” long and attached  from the fork to a hole in the frame. However, that part is no longer available. I’ve researched all the usual restoration and aftermarket vendors and 90% of them recommend an aftermarket replacement part from OER that has the same part number. The replacement spring is only 6 -7/8” long. So I’m guessing that is the correct replacement part but I’m unsure as to the installation points as a result of the big difference in length. Of course one end of the spring goes into the fork, but where does the other end attach? Thanks! 1981 Formula- Super T10 trans. All stock.

This site shows the dimensions which is a lot longer.  Looks like the package dimensions,  but is discontinued.

Have you tried AMES?  I just got all that stuff new from them this past winter/spring.

Well, I had to email Ames as the spring was not in their on line catalog. Received response stating no replacement part similar to the GM original is available at this time. The spring from the SS site appears to be the aftermarket OER item sold by most aftermarket vendors. I ordered the OER spring. We’ll see if that is a suitable replacement in about 7 days. I’ll update the status with the results. Thanks all for your input and help.

You brought up an interesting situation. The  Conversion Kit I ordered was from Ground Up. I'm still a long way from doing the change but have been buying what I need when it goes on sale. I would have to go look at what they shipped to see if its that short spring. I was not aware of any problem until you brought this up. Thank You. Those that are sold out, did you ask what brand or who supplied them? The difference being that they stock the longer version and know it's different to what OER supply. Whereas the typical OER stockist knows what they are told from ads.

Received the OER spring. It appears a bit more stout in wire diameter and tension. Installed spring . Took a little more effort to install but it does go into the stock holes in the fork and the frame. Operated the clutch pedal and can feel a slight difference in tension , however , it works like it should. I’ve attached photos of the installed OER spring. Hope this helps anyone else that may need some direction on the clutch fork return spring.

Thank for the update. Looks like the spring is stretched pretty good. I guess I'll find out. Thank again.
