More-What Are These Wires For?
« on: August 10, 2024, 12:45:01 PM »
Trying to get things buttoned and I found these two wires. They were mixed in with my power ant. stuff so I overlooked them the first time around. I am pretty sure they are not for the antennae. There are 2 that come through the firewall at one location. One has a connector, the other has a bare end but that means nothing. I would only assume the connector has been lost over the years.

Here is the white wire, it has some kind of 'block' inline.20240810_135616 by Kerry Grubb, on Flickr
Green and brown with the connector in place.

I think the white wire is from tachometer and the wires with connector are for pulse wipers.

White one is for the tach.

The two wires you have I don't find but here is a pic of the connector going into my non-pulse wipers.  It comes from the top of the main fuse block in a wire loom.

OK. I was thinking the white wire was the tach. Glad to find that as it was not working when I started the car. Pulse wiper option so that is entirely possible. However the three wires I posted do not go into the wiring block on the engine bay say of the firewall. I bought a new engine harness and all of the engine wires go through that block. These that I posted are separate. I did not look but I assume they go directly to the fuse block.
THANK YOU!

Willie, grab one of these and swap the end. Make it look better and not risk coming off. Random link.

The green one almost looks like a compressor plug, but a long way from home. Did you say they weren't for the power antenna? That's what I'd have guessed first, 3 wires and grommet in that location, although the electrical diagram say black, white and something else not as shown. 2 wires for aerial motor, one for the radio reception. You may be able to follow that one through to somewhere since it would bypass fusebox etc.

I am about 80% certain the two wire connector is not for the power antennae. I have those wires located. I marked them clearly when I unhooked it. The motor was out of the car and these wires were danglers when I got it, hence no location marked on them. I have a new tach harness for my 77 and it also has the same settup. A single and the 2 into one connector. The catalogue says that 79 requires a different harness so I bought one of those. I probably could have just put an end on the wire I have but its too late as the new part is ordered
