HorrorCon
« on: August 07, 2024, 03:27:16 PM »
I guess its like a comic con. And I suppose its a hobby for some. Last weekend I went with my son to a Horror movie convention in NJ. I have never been to something like this but it was actually fun. I prefer the old Universal Monsters but my son likes all of the new stuff and was in his glory. One of the reasons he wanted to go was to see William Shatner who was there signing stuff. We did get to his table and were actually within arms distance a couple of times so that was pretty cool. I was surprised by how crowded the place was. There were quite a few in 'character' but not as many as I had expected.

Very interesting. There is a hobby for everyone. The dedication, creativity and workmanship that goes into some of these costumes is just amazing. There are some very talented folks that I home get a good paying job utilizing their talents.

Sounds like fun, I took my daughter to comic con some years ago and she had the best time. It was OK for me, kinda cool to see some of the costumes.

It was def. a different experience than I am used to. A few years ago a guy contacted me and I made a giant hammer of some sort for his daughter that was building a costume for one of these things. I turned the handle and the head on a lathe. He did send me some pics when she was in full costume and I was impressed with how it turned out.

At this particular event we attended, we had to park about a half mile away. There was a couple that parked right behind us. The guy was carrying a real chainsaw (sans chain). I thought that took some dedication dragging a 15lb chainsaw that far to get in and then around the venue. Not to mention the heat index outside was near 100.

I'm surprised they allowed a real chain saw in the event.

It didnt have the chain. There was a big notice on the website where my son bought the tickets. It said no weapons of any kind, knives guns etc. There was no checking anywhere to get into the venue (a large hotel with several conference rooms). Not that I condone that kind of thing but anyone could have brought anything in
