Last 1975 Trans Am made
« on: June 26, 2024, 09:20:04 AM »
I've seen meme on facebook showing the last Trans Am for 1975 was 27,274.  If that is the case, why does my VIN say 33657 at the end? isn't that the production number?

Yeah Rich, that's the way it works from what I can tell.  Below is an explanation of the VIN.  It does sound odd though.

VIN body numbers.  All Fbody bodies on the linedid not become a Trans Am.  Some were Formulas, Esprit, etc… and others were Camaros.  Maybe that is it.

Ah, that would make sense, it isn't that there were 33,000+ trans am made but 33,000+ firebirds some of which were other models.

:)  Sometimes, especially if I post something :)  I had seen that and did some additional research and it looked true to me and then I scratched my head thinking how my Trans Am could be numbered like it is.

Rich, I think Yeti is on to something. I thought I read awhile ago that the vin number was not necessarily just for trans ams but all f bodies across the line, that may have also included camaros.

I have a good friend with a '75, the last digits on his are 73580. Build date 2nd week of July. What is your build date?
