Door seals
« on: June 21, 2024, 08:53:10 AM »
Looking to replace the original door seals. I see a few options on ebay. Any positive experience with new reproduction seals? What brand to get and which ones to avoid.Thanks.

The seal that goes on the perimeter of the door and seals the door to the body.

One idea I liked but have not tried is the new range from Steele Rubber. They have good reviews. But in particular their door seals have an inserted brass plate where the ends attach instead of the rubber that tears on day 2.

I bought a set, shipped it around the world and found it didn't have this at all. Turns out, I bought old stock, same part number and similar price, but it had been 'improved'. So yeah, I got screwed there. But what I had looks nice too, I compared it to my NOS set.

I bought the Steele seal a couple of days ago. Hopefully they won't send me old stock. They are substantially more expensive than the $44 free shipping on ebay which I am sure are subpar. I paid close to $200

Their window seals are good at least. I’d imagine the door will be as well. Hopefully

Got the Steele seals today. This is the top-grade choice for a serious restoration.

Don't get excited yet, might not fit! Let us know how they install and if you got the version with the brass plates in each end.

It has the brass ends, I verified it.

Installed the driver's door seal. Perfect fit and quality. Door closed without effort. Buy the Steele brand and nothing else. Worth every dollar of $210 spent.

Thats good to hear about the Steeles. I bought their stuff for my t top trim on the glass and although there was not much to it they fit perfect and were great quality. I have a set of door seals that came with my car, they might be metro. If they dont work out I will be looking at Steele.

Were your previous seals just worn out old ones? Would have been interesting with another brand that was new but a little hard to close or with windows going up and down (on the hull seals) and then changing to the Steele as a comparison.

I see that their body opening hull to door seals are currently unavailable. But they also didn't use the brass inserts for the ends like the door seals do. The hull seals seem to be even more of an issue for tearing away from the mounting pins or deforming, not the small stretched loop on the doors but the entire moulding would shift and pull out of position. Hopefully when restocked they will also be updated.
