Lucy Blue color code
« on: June 11, 2024, 05:44:23 AM »
Hi All, my red 71 is going blue. I know the code is 26 but when the paint shop plugged in that number about 10 blues came up but none said Lucerne Blue. Many codes and colors are coming up but none say Lucerne Blue.

The following is the best info I found so far. Does anyone know the correct color code?

OEM COLOR CODE: 26 / 976 / 4069 / 922 / 22-922 (PPG#2213)

FOUND ON: 1970 Buick GS 455, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle, 1970 Chevrolet ChevyII, 1970 Chevrolet Camaro, 1970 Oldsmobile 442, 1970 Pontiac Firebird, 1971 Buick Riviera, 1971 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, 1971 Chevrolet Corvette, 1971 Chevrolet Nova, 1971 GMC Sprint, 1971 Oldsmobile 442, 1971 Pontiac Firebird, 1972 Buick Gran Sport, 1972 Chevrolet Camaro, 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle, 1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, 1972 Chevrolet Nova, 1972 GMC Sprint, 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass, 1972 Pontiac Firebird, 1972 Pontiac GTO, 1973 Chevrolet Corvette, 1974 Chevrolet Corvette

As you know every GM division had their own names for the same mixes. And possibly even some non-GM that used the same mix over the years for something else.

I'd check what some of the other recent Lucy repaints have used and how they come out or compare, since they'll still have been a custom mix at some point to match an older colour no longer supported by the same colour systems.

ALSO NAMED AS: Stratomist Blue, Mulsanne Blue, Viking Blue, Bright Blue, Medium Bright Blue, Medium Blue

Thanks for the quick reply, I found tamcopaint to be the most reliable info. The paint shop plugged in the numbers and all that you listed came up. I was hoping that one of them would say Lucerne Blue but that was not the case. Hopeful someone with recent Lucy blue paint job will chime in.

Hi Jack!

I am sure you may have found out by now that the 'new' paint codes have no bearing on the old ones. I was told at one time that the best way to get the colour is to match with an old colour sheet. Maybe put a feeler out on the PY forum?

Jack I just checked and Automotivetouchup dot com has Lucerne Blue #26. Its about 500. a gallon.

I have used these guys a couple of times with great results. I painted my 79 TATA with their paint and it was very nice. I used my own clear coat (sherwin williams) that I got from my local auto paint supplier. I did a touch up with the paint I got on the underside of my trunk lid that was original. The paint matched PERFECT! Not close but perfect. One thing I was concerned with as there are as many shades of silver as white! I wanted to make sure I had the right one.

Because of their name -touch up- and the fact that they sell RTS -ready to spray- I can see a pro painter being reluctant to use the product. But I have been more than happy with their stuff and will continue using it.

Thank you Kerry, the shop I use has their paint store, I'll check with the owner to see if he is okay with me supplying the paint.

Autotouch up sells their products from nail bottle size to gallons. Perhaps you could just get a small quantity that they could colour match their preferred product to.

BTW, Looking forward to seeing the finished product!

Did I miss something? Lucerne Blue was very clearly listed and everything else was secondary to it.

You are correct except the paint shop did not have the formula. Found it at a paint shop that had a code book from the 80s.

I went through all of this last year. Depending on how well the formula is mixed for your spray out varies on the preparers accuracy.
I had no less than 8 different spray outs from different manufacturers and basically you have to just pick one. At the Pontiac nationals in Dallas, I found a Lucy blue that looked perfect for me and ended finding an old school paint barista that worked for English paint and supplies here in north Texas.
We used PPG Global paint , it’s expensive at $900 gal.
Your color will vary according to air pressure and application.
