Correct tail housing super t 10
« on: June 08, 2024, 09:26:44 AM »
I was wondering if anyone with a super t-10 can share the number on the tail housing.  I have happened upon one that is 13-04-066-901.  My research on the internet has left me confused on whether this is
correct or not.  The it is a 904 nodular iron main case.

Mine is kinda buried, but I need to dig it out anyway. Next time I am at my shop I will do so. It is from a '78.

I have one sitting on the bench in my barn.  I can check it out tonight.  I believe it's from a 1978 as well.

Mine is marked:
13-04-065-903 cast into the case

Stamped directly above the casting is:
2.15.79-1 (prod date- corresponds with date of car +/-
ML T7802

Cast into the tail shaft directly above the linkage
13-04-066-90(5)  Last digit in parenthesis is a flat boss with the 5 stamped in place not cast.

There is also a stamping that matches my cars s/n

Car is a 1979 (tenth anniv.) trans am

Thank you all for the responses so far.  I may have jumped the gun and bout a super t10.  It is a 904 with 2.88 first gear.  My tail housing is stamped as 12-04-066-901 was told it came out of a vette.
However, I have seen it claimed that it would work on a camaro forum,  but was trying to put together something more concrete. Looks like theres a chance I might be shopping for a tail housing haha.

I am not sure if there are different length housings like some of the GM automatics. Keep in mind that if there are you will need the correct length main shaft to match the housing length.

Is originality on your mind? If not, just get a new one. Richmond makes replacement extension housings.

My ST-10 has been a persistent leaker where the tail housing interfaces with the midplate, even after replacing all the gaskets last year. At this point I can only assume it's warpage or porosity, so I just got a new extension housing and billet midplate.

My only concern is that when I am done, that everything will line up as it should.  I am ok with buying a different tail housing if necessary but if I dont need to then I would like to avoid.  I am curious
if everything is the same then maybe the stamping number is different due to my case being an iron case vs the aluminum cases??
