VFW Car Show
« on: June 04, 2024, 04:58:41 PM »
Last Saturday my son and I went to the local VFW car show. About 100 cars total, mostly street rod style vehicles but some nicely restored originals as well. I didnt take a lot of pictures. I had the only Trans Am (or even Firebird) but there were a few Pontiacs. A nice original Grand Ville convertible, a 56 star chief race car replica, my buddies 65 Lemans and another 64 Lemans.

While I didnt win any trophies, I did win a door prize  Turned out better than a trophy as I picked up a can of Mcguires gold carnuba wax. I have a can at home that is just about used up so its a product I use and I know it cost more than the $20 admission price, so I came out slightly ahead. Since I am still waiting (a week tomorrow) for my parts from Pypes to show up (which is about an hour from my house!!) I spent Sunday waxing my car, which it badly needed and then I decided to wax the wifes mustang.

Very nice assortment of cars. Living in the Pontiac Firebird world, I tend to forget they are not nearly as numerous as Chevys and Fords. That makes Pontiacs and FB's a little more special!

I wouldn't mind that Grandville convertible.

Nice win and the wax! I really,  really need to do that too.

Why is you hood closed? Didn't have time to clean the engine bay? Mine would be closed too but that's because my LS looks like a turd. I ordered engine covers to help out with. Should be here soon.

Love seeing some nice old cars.

My engine bay is pretty clean and tidy. I think one of the biggest draws of this car is the giant bird on the hood! I think they present better with the hood closed. Every once in a while if someone is showing interest I will open it. Depends on my mood when I get there. This may be the last show I will go to for awhile. My area has a close knit of car guys (of course I only know about 3 of them, lol) and every show its the same cars. I never stay for trophies but I would not be surprised if its the same winners all of the time as well. I like to drive it, so shows give me an excuse to get out. I prefer the cars n coffee kinda stuff.
There is another show this coming Sat literally about 1 mile from my house. Not worth the drive and I am sure it will be the same cars I have seen for the last 2 weeks in a row. Doubt I will go. There is an all Pontiac show about an hr away in August I try to get to every year then there is Hershey in Oct.  Thats about it for the must sees.

I will ad, I ran into my best friend from childhood, we were like brothers. Ironically he lives a couple miles from me on the same road and I only see him about 2 times a year! He had another school buddy with him (whom I was friends with all through school and recently found out from talking with mom that he is my 2nd cousin ). Anyway, my 'cousin' was telling me he bought an 81 Trans Am last year with 4000. miles!! Thats right 4 thous. He is a used car dealer and got it from a collector that was less than a half hour from where we live. Said the guy had a barn full of very low mile cars, vettes, syclone trucks, the T/A etc. Only problem is he doesnt want to drive it and hes not sure what he is going to do with it. Still has original tires, said everything looks brand new but the rad. leaks. Im going to try to stop by and take a look.
