4th gen brake recommendation
« on: May 26, 2024, 08:23:31 PM »
My brakes are shuddering a bit on hard deceleration. My mechanic said no sense working on the existing as I should upgrade rotors and. Calipers. Any suggestions on good ones for the car? I just want some quality units and upgrades but don’t do any really aggressive driving.

Thanks.

I think you need a new mechanic.  The stick 4th gen stuff is pretty darn good as it is. My 79 is all stock 4th gen and I love them. I drive my 1998, I thought they were great on that car too.

79 Trans am low buck LS swapped
79 Formula 301 (Work in progress)
67 RS Camaro (waiting it's turn)
69 Dodge charger on late model charger chassis
49 Ford F1 on a 2003 Chevy ZR2 Chassis (current project)
Names, Luke. If I hear anyone telling me they're my father....

If your calipers are in good shape and have no issues; I'd just put new stock rotors on with a set of performance pads on it. There are several brands out there. Some offer pads and rotors together that use the stock calipers.
1971 LS5 Formula. It's on the road finally!
