THANK YOU for your patience....
« on: November 27, 2023, 03:04:43 PM »
Happy belated Turkey Day everyone!  I wanted to update everyone on the forum.  I believe the template issues that are plaguing some versions of Edge and Chrome were due to their security settings in recent updates and how the browsers treat the site.  I had planned to update the forum to the latest version during the turkey day time off in hopes of resolving that issue, but something really good happened.  My daughter was home for the occasion and like most of her visits; she let me know what her car needed.  I can't even remember why, but I headed out to the shed in the backyard to look for something.  I ended moving some boxes in the back and saw a usb cable hanging out of the box.  Curiosity got the best of me, and I ended up digging 3 backpack usb hdd's out.   I'm guessing one of my kids put the drives in a box full of house stuff in our push to move from our last house.  That was a crazy time.  Anyhow, the first two were empty, but the third ended up having a backup file from TAC on it.  It doesn't have the last 4 years on it, but it does contain 10 years worth of messages on it and I am currently working on how to get the data back into the forum.  Some of the table index values are in use since the tables reset back to 0, so I'm going to have to rewrite the sql file, update the topic numbers and verify the tables.  The backup was taken under a previous version and several of the table field names have changed, but the fields are present which is good.  I don't want to update the forum version until I have the data inserted into the current table just in case the tables change again and make insert impossible for me.

Wish me luck and say a prayer for me.

I have continued to research this and this is not as cut and dried as I had originally thought.  However, there appears to be two definite options with a possible good and great outcome.

Option 1 - Create a second archive forum, restore the data there and let it be a searchable resource.

Option 2 - Create a second forum and use a tried and tested merge script from the developers to bring the forums together.  The process would create duplicate, but renamed members for all of the users that posted in that backup data.  I have contacted the developers to see if I can retain the users in that data since those users are still present currently.

With either option I have to create the second forum, which would allow members to login to it with old passwords.  I'm going to work on this tomorrow and see if I can get it working.  I'll update everyone as soon as I get a response from development.

I believe the members table is seperate from the messages table, so I am going to attempt to restore the current list on top of the old.

I have the restore operational with 300k+ posts in a temp space on version 1.1.19

I’m upgrading it to 2.0.19 now, so the tables match before I attempt the member upload.  I’m going to have to remove all the mods in the process, so I need to do some security checks before opening it up.

The restore blew up on the first upgrade attempt due to missing components.  I missed some of the back end configs that needed to be changed, so I started over and I have it ready for a second upgrade attempt.  This forum is at version 2.0.x and the old is at 1.1.x version.  I need to get them both to 2.1.x before I can attempt the merge.

Where are you looking?

Also, is the content in this forum set to private somehow? Non members can still read topics? I noticed where searching for a few obscure part numbers in Google nothing comes up anywhere, yet I have 2 topics in here that involve them. Google couldn't find them. I know that when searching for similar threads I'd always come up with links to forums like 78ta where I'd also posted things, I'd just fond my own posts, not ones I wanted. I'm not even a member there now.

They were there for a while but are gone now, it wasn’t everything but there were restoration threads and threads in mechanical, electric ,numbers, 2nd gen and elsewhere. They did all have early 2021 start dates but I was sure many were actually older then that.
