Year one vs. classic industries/OER 17x9 snowflakes
« on: November 20, 2023, 01:28:48 PM »
Are the year one and classic industries/OER 17x9 snowflakes the same exact wheel?  I am looking to buy them and the classic industries are $250 cheaper to buy so if they are the exact same wheel I would like to get those to save money..thanks!

OER and Classic Ind. are the same wheels

I believe Yearone makes their own wheels but I'm not 100% sure.  I've never seen Yearone advertise OER as one of their parts suppliers but take that with a grain of salt.

About 7 years ago I bought 17 x 9 ‘ Honeycombs from Classic as they had them cheaper than anywhere else. They came in Year One boxes.

I bought silver ones from YearOne about 10 years back and decided to go with gold when Classic had a great sale on them about 2 years ago.  No issues with either and they definitely looked similar in structure and quality.  I don’t believe the classic ones came in YearOne boxes for mine if I recall.

If I remember correctly version one had different backspacing.  The silver ones I bought from YO around 9-10 years back were version 2.  The Classic gold ones bought more recently had the same specs as version 2 and fit exactly the same.  I wasn’t able to compare the paint obviously to see if classic/OER may have gone cheaper on the paint but it’s a very mellow gold color.  The paint seems to hold up fine when I wash them but they’re not very bright.

Ok thanks for the input guys I really appreciate it.  I am going to go with the black painted recesses so I won’t have to worry about the gold paint difference so I think it’s worth a shot to save the money…. Thanks again

Cool we don’t see many pics of those.  Post some pics once you get those installed.  Agreed you should  be good to go with those black recessed classic wheels.

Looks great - definitely like those better than the silver ones on a black T/A.

Well today I got the wheels…but I had to go with year one as classics idea of “arriving soon” is more like 8 months or more from now lol.  Obviously I just threw them on to see how they looked but tomorrow is the next big step of dropping the engine and transmission in…I can’t wait to get that step done

Car looks fantastic, I am a sucker for black Firebirds with silver accents. This is exciting to see Firebird builds in progress. Post more pictures when you can.

Tires are 275/40/17 I have the car mini tubbed so I actually can run a much wider tire but I just bought these wheels and tires for now so I can get it on the road hopefully in the spring.   The year one rims are using a bulge lug currently.  The all the emblems and hood bird are actually all painted on and air brushed to give them dimension…it’s hard to see in the picture.  Excited as today is the day I finally get to drop in the engine so I included a few pictures of that too

Okay, you made my day. What a high end build you have going, brakes suspension and engine. You said you’re installing the engine today. Sorry if I missed it, when you have time maybe provide some details on the car’s history. Nothing against LS motors, but it is refreshing to see a Pontiac engine going in. Motor is a work of art like the car. I see scavenging pump and Kauffman heads. Got any details on the engine? Dyno numbers?

I’ll post something up in the projects page as it’s probably more appropriate to go over the build there
