Oil sending unit keeps failing
« on: November 06, 2023, 10:21:59 AM »
Guys,

Anybody else finding themselves having to replace the oil sending unit every 2 - 3 years?  This is my 3rd unit. Starts leaking and then dies eventually. Wondering if the heat from the headers is what is causing them to fail.

Any aftermarket solutions that are more reliable?

Must be because I've had my aftermarket replacement on my car for a few years now and no issue. Mine is mounted on an ls engine which I have the sensor mounted to the oil filter adapter (I think, I mean it's attached in that area). It seems to be fine, not leaking or anything.

What engine? I know that on Pontiacs, another mounting spot option is the distributor area.

That's an interesting option. Pontiac 455 (1976) block. First year I got the car going I was running a mechanical one but I prefer seeing my oil pressure in the original cluster.

Here's an interesting post about using the distributor port AND Rocky Rotella is advising in favour of using it over the stock location. Interesting if you ask me.

Sorry, the forum UI is still broken and I don't recall the command structure for URLs.
