What I really want for Christmas
« on: March 21, 2023, 08:09:16 PM »
I know this is a Pontiac Firebird site. I have always had a soft spot for Mopars too. If I was about 50 years younger with a pocket full of money, I would love one of these https://www.dodgegarage.com/srt-demon-170

Ya, what a monster! Dodge really doing some cool stuff what a time to be alive. Not like the 80s or late 70s where a V8 trans am was about one tenth of this HP.

That thing is a beast, but I have never cared for mopar stuff. I would take a 69/70sh charger just for what they are, but next to the mighty T/A I would be more apt to have a Mustang. After all remember how the chase ended in Bullet,
Likewise, not trying to *%*& in anyones cornflakes, but I honestly dont see the need for a car with a zillion hp. Maybe because I have never had one. I also did not get the hype around corvettes until a friend let me drive his Z06!!

And now they are dropping Challenger, and Camaro is leaving again.  HP has really changed through the years.  No longer true is "no replacement for displacement".  My wife's 3.7 V-6 2012 Mustang is 305 hp.  Seeing the Dodge/Chevy/Ford rivalry the past 12 years has been great.  I hate to see it going away.

Honestly this was foolish talk from me and nothing more. I can't argue the modern muscle cars are better in many ways than the cars I was so fond of during the 60's and 70's. The current model Challenger and Mustang do a decent job with their retro styling, but I much prefer the styling of the old stuff. While I would love a chance to take the new Demon for a run down the strip, all that power is a waste on the street. The motor in my TA was dyno tested at 490 HP and 580 ft lbs. I will occasionally get on it, but mostly enjoy a relaxed cruise and listening to it idle at a stop light.

Your car has an awesome idle sound so I get that! My LS only sounds great at high RPMs. I love taking up there but afraid it will fly apart! Idle is ok, nothing like yours!

I’m right there with you.  My days of “spirited” driving are about done.  A cruise without white-knuckle driving has become my style.  That being said- a Panther Pink Challenger T/A like my late buddy bought new in 1970 is unobtainable for me, as is a ‘69/70 Mach 1 or Boss 429.  I guess I’ll stick with 220 hp only until Lotto comes through!
