Removing window regulator springs

I dont have my manual (fisher body) handy but isnt there a spot in there that says how to do just what you are asking? Personally I am afraid of anything with a spring. I started taking them apart when I was a 10 year old kid messing with old lawn mower engines and dont think I have ever got one back to where its supposed to be!

section 5-38 of the 77 fisher body manual explains how to drill a hole in the body of the mechanism to lock into place if it needs serviced. I did not see where it said anything about spring removal other than it is dangerous, LOL. I was going to scan the page but my printer is acting up presently.

I can say I've never been tempted. If a spring broke I suppose I would replace the whole regulator.

And if you didn't just have spares lying around everywhere you'd have to come up with alternative ideas. Got it too easy. Also made a tool, got the springs off and replaced again after plating. Done. Moving on.
