« on: October 31, 2022, 07:33:09 AM »
1979 with a 400. 200 r4 trans.  Fresh motor around 400 hp.  470 lidt cam.  Im thinkin about staying on the somewhat quiet side. The 50 series flowmaster seams too quiet. Thinkin 40 series delta. Im goin to exhaust shop soon 2.5 open headers right now.  Any suggestions on mufflers please

An excellent question, I hear a lot. Haven't been able to experiment with what's new out there now-a-days. But I do hear lots of "loud" exhausts out there. Mostly on Mustangs. My buddy just did over a 69 FB, and wanted something not too radical either. I'll try and find out what he got...about a couple 3 yrs ago.

I went with Borlas on mine, very close to the same setup as yours too. They sound nice, quiet, good rumble, and you hear'em when you stomp it.

Thanks for reply.  Do you know what borla muffler you are running.  Does it still sound good at idle?

I have Walker Dynomax turbo mufflers with true dual exhaust and no cats.  The sound is just a little louder than what the factory sound was (original owner here).  It's a little louder not due to the mufflers but due to having true dual exhaust with no cats.

Sounds real good at idle. This was a video of my new interior but you can hear the car running...

I have pypes on my car. I think for the money they make a pretty good settup. A/T, 400, mild rebuild and cammed out. I have the  'violator' mufflers with 2.5 stainless X cross over pipe, dual exhaust. RA III ex. manifold. At first it was too loud for my liking, and honestly, it still is a bit loud but I have gotten used to it. Sounds perfect with the lumpy idle. 55-65 mph it settles in nice and quiet. Up to that point its loud inside but I have very little interior sound insulation. The system is made for the second gen. and the installer had no problems putting it together. My current project is a 400 4 speed and I am planning on using a Pypes system but with a transverse muffler this time around. The pypes people told me that the transverse actually produces a bit more hp than the dual settup. I am looking forward and curious as to how the two will compare.

I have pypes 2.5" with x pipe and racepro mufflers.  just got idle clip of a comparison betwen 9.1:1 CR and 10.3:1 CR not much tone change.
But to me they are great, quiet when you want to be quiet and loud when you stomp it.
