Muscle Mania
« on: September 02, 2022, 12:33:15 PM »
This Sunday, at LeBanon Valley Dragway, (up-state NY) is an event called "Muscle Mania". I was wondering if it had anything to do, with the "F.A.S.T." cars, that they've been running there every spring and fall for over 10 years. That event was called "Muscle Palooza", and featured the F.A.S.T. cars, which if you're not familiar with, requires the cars to be "mostly" cars of the 60-70s, and had to meet some special requirements. In one class the car has to be almost 100% stock, as it rolled off the factory floor. The other class has to also appear stock, but can be internally modified to the hilt. The F.A.S.T. designation stands for "Factory appearing, stock tires." Which means no slicks or hedders. But some of these modified ones are running 11s, and I hear there's a 68 FB RAII car running 10s! (Once again, no slicks or hedders).A couple other cars have run 10s too, think it was a Hemi road rat, and maybe a 429 Mustang, but forgot. I've been waiting to get a glimpse of the RAII car, but haven't caught it yet. Anyway, curious to see if those cars will be running on Sunday.

Below, I'll toss in a couple pics of one event I went to a few years back. The 74 SD was running, but the Goat was just on display. I have a few more cool car photos from that day, if anyone is interested.

I love the tri-power GTO the engine bay looks scary and intimating just standing there.

Hemmings usually has coverage of the FAST racing action. Its def. interesting to see how the 'stock' cars from that time period do compared to others. It seems that usually vettes do the fastest runs.

That car was a gorgeous hard top, with all the go fast goodies, but if you'll notice, has been up-graded to a dual master cyl., and probably had disc brakes. 64s, and 5s are my favorite Goats, but the 67 on up engs. were a bit better. My 2nd goat was a 64, and I had a blast with it. Was barely 20, but some great memories. I had it less than 3 years, with about 4-5 engs, for various reasons, but I still learned a lot on it. I didn't take lots of pics of it, and below is one of the few I have. With 24 exposure Kodacks, or Polaroids, it was tough getting good shots.

OK, how bout this? Not a fan of the "newer" GTOs too much, (71 on up ) but this beauty caught my eye too. Also had everything. 455HO, and a stick shift. The AC kinda clogs the engine compartment, but I guess I can't have everything.
Wish I had more T/A pics. Maybe I can find some this weekend, at the drags.

And today, is the day.
I learned the other day, that Hemmings has dropped their sponsorship to the F.A.S.T cars, and now they're sponsored by "Mohawk River Promotions". Same event, and group, just no more Hemmings. Wonder what's up with that? Anyway, "Muscle Mania" here we come. I'll see if I can get any decent pics.

I hate to think that Hemmings is on life support.

When I used to live in CT I ran my cars at Lebanon Valley a couple times a year at track rental days.  Pics of my '70 and stepsons '76 at Lebanon. I only ran the '70 bird there one day to get a baseline before mods. I had other cars better suited for drag strip use.

Good.

Years ago we noted an article in Hemmings Muscle Machines about an Impala disc conversion.  They were very flowery in their praise for the kit they were installing and whiny about the kit they were replacing.  Close examination revealed the replaced kit was ours.  There was nothing wrong with it nor had they contacted us about any issues.  I contacted them and asked the author of the article what exactly was wrong and why they disparaged the kit and other stuff sold on eBay.  He referred me to their legal counsel and hung up like a little biatch.

By pure chance I met him at SEMA and asked once again - he literally scurried away.

Fark Hemmings and specifically fark that smarmy who- haa Mike McNessor

My computer locked up, and it's just taken me 10 mins to get back here. Hmmmmm. Guess I need-ta get some grease in the zerk fittings in my 1914 drive cabinet, and maybe dust off some of the tubes).

Does this car look familiar to anyone?

I have a few other photos of performance cars on display, but none are  Pontiacs. And altho I'm a  life-long hi-performance Poncho fan, the other cars I took pics of are "historic" in their own way. Just wondering how many others really are interested in them, that are reading this thread. I don't know if the lack of participation at the show was due to the threat of rain, or the hobby is waning faster by the day. The photo below is to just show the lack of people in the stands. The F.A.S.T. cars that were racing were minimal, and nothing worth waiting for, for racing photos. Curious how much interest there is, at any "drifting" events.
