New toy
« on: May 08, 2022, 10:25:41 AM »
So, I sold my old, really old 1947 Farmal to my brother and got this new Kubota. Also, with a big truck, you can borrow big toys. I had a bunch of dirt to move so I used the skid steer while my son graded with the Kubota. I also got a tiller to make quick work of the pumpkin patch.

Nice tractor!  We just did a job for a guy that has one like that. I think he said its 15 yrs old and still running like a top. I would love to have something like that. I had a few skid loaders and a couple of backhoes at one time, boy do I miss a good earth moving machine when its needed

I figured you two would appreciate it.

They do make a great tractor and pretty easy to afford as $0 down, 0% for 6 years. I got an extra $1000 off to just buy it outright and I didn't have to get the insurance that costs $2500 over the life of the loan. So it was worth it for me to save the $3500.

Luke, nice tractor!

When you own equipment like that, you might find you have more friends and neighbors than you ever thought.

Very nice, maybe one day I'll move out of the city to an area that justifies me getting something like that.

Sounds like a tempting offer Mike,
Jack I have that same mower. Bought it years ago, have never done anything to take care of it other than put in gas. That thing wont die, still going strong. The deck rusted out a couple of years ago and went to the scrap yard so I use it now to pull the trailer around when doing yard work.

Showing off with your new fancy mower, huh?  This is my old standby, since 1997.  Still rolling, still cutting.  Mainly used as a spray rig, since my wife runs an ExMark ZTR and I run the JD diesel 54” mower.

I bought mine brand new years ago, I don't remember when but it must have been at least 25 years ago. It runs strong and I never had any issues with it but the spindle keeps on breaking and it's a pain to replace.

This one is exactly 25 this year.  1997 model (I looked at the data plate a while ago).

Heres my old work horse. Deck rusted out so it went to scrap. My grass cutter is a zero turn grasshopper so I use the ole Craftsman to pull the yard cart when doing gardening stuff. The drive belt used to jump off all of the time and I got tired of taking the back cover off for access, so a couple of quick cuts with an angle grinder and all was better.

When I was a kid, Sears was the Amazon of the day. We had sears mowers, washer & dryers, Die Hard batteries, power tools and of course Craftsman tools. At the time 1 penny out of every dollar spent in North America was at Sears. For many years products came with parts lists and you could order replacement parts for everything.

I guess I am starting to sound like an old man!

Nice Kubota.  I think everybody should run a skid steer for a day once in a while, just for mental health benefits.

My mental health suffered from skidsteer overtemp last summer.  I managed to save the brushcutter attachment.

You are so right Larry in regards to Sears. We would take a trip at least once a month there. Just about everything in the house came from there including our clothes.

2022-06-09_08-48-06 by Kerry Grubb,
I bought a brand new deck for that tractor one time.  We just wore the first one out, rust, etc.  Bought a new one for $400 and wore that out.  I have an orange Husqvarna now (similar) and I weld on the deck all the time.  I don't see how any normal person (without a welder) is supposed to be able to mow with a cheap lawnmower.

Joe, I am sure you have forgotten by now but the starter on this tractor came from you. I think I may have posted a pic a few years ago and may have mentioned the starter was going bad. You had a new one you sent to me.

Oh, I remember!

db electrical (huge now see ebay) used to be a walk-in generator shop here in a little shack beside the road.  I bought a new Taiwan starter and they had the brushes on the shelf; I paid maybe $5 for the brushes and fixed the old starter too.
