Does this have any value?

My garage is getting filled with parts I will probably never use, trying to make some more space. In October 2020 I pulled the original engine out of my 1980 TA (301 normally aspirated) with 7,160 miles. The engine ran great, no noises or smoke. It has been sitting in my climate-controlled garage. Yesterday I pulled the plugs and cranked it until I got oil pressure (40 PSI). Put the plugs back in, filled the carb float bowl and it fired right up, idled with 60 PSI oil pressure.

Does this have any value? If so any suggestions on what I should ask? Everything in the pictures would be included. Realistically it might only be of value to someone who wants an all stock Pontiac 301. But it might be a cheap way for someone to get their car running again.

I'd certainly say that there is value, but I think you nailed it that the person would be looking to replace their 301. However, someone also may have project as you mentioned that needs a motor. I'd throw it our there for like $800 bucks and see what happens. A good running motor has to be worth at least that.

I concur, a running low mileage motor has value to someone.  Most likely someone on a budget, or someone hellbent on keeping a 301 car a 301.  I say throw it up for $800-1,000 OBO and take the first offer over $500.

The 301 is much-maligned rightly or wrongly, but that thing is AWESOME.

I agree, but put it out there for $1,200 and claim "supply chain issues".  When they bitch, ask them to submit a comparable option on another similar one LOL.

PS - The AC brackets are probably worth selling separately if you don't need them.  I do not know if they interchange with full deck height Pontiac V8s (350, 400 etc.)

Selling anything 301 related is a chore. If you get anybody offering something remotely acceptable, take it and run.

Costs easily add up for the guy who may already have one but trying to collect all the brackets and clips and accessories to suit, plus shipping on each when they don't pop up as a set. So there can be a lot of value to someone like that but never be able to sell for remotely similar. A pity, sometimes you get lucky. X2 that one looks great. Someone with a crook 301 who doesn't want to dive in over their head with LS swap may well see it as a simple swap.

I honestly briefly looked for a 301 setup to drop in my engine for a cheap temporary replacement while I tear into my 400 but realized too many things needed to be changed such as accessory brackets and shaker setup. A cheap 350 Pontiac is another option I’m considering. Anyway, I would imagine that would be worth it to the RIGHT person but how long until that person goes looking and will they be in the right part of the country?

I'm sure there are some people out there who'd use it.  For instance, I have a 1979 Redbird 4 speed.  There's not much reason to modify a car like that; I could use it.  There are more differences from 79 to 80 than I would like, but overall it would save me a lot of trouble.

I would take it over a 305, you should not have any problems getting 500-800 for it.

That sounds reasonable. That is not a motor you are going to get rich trying to sell. Hopefully someone will take it off of your hands. If you had this out there a year ago I would prob have jumped on it so I could at least get my 79 on the road while I wait the 'how many years does it take to rebuild a motor' game!!!!!!
