1976 Shaker Distance through hood

Hey gang, been a while since I posted but I am still working on the LS1 conversion and up to mounting the shaker. I’ve constructed a good base for it to sit on above the Ls intake, I am looking for guidance on how high the shaker needs to sit through the hood to look correct and still seal and have range of movement to shake.

Any one have insight on that? Thanks all!

I can measure how high the shaker on my 76 sits above the hood. Will post soon.

The height from the hood to the top of the shaker at the rear is 2 5/8.” My carb and intake aren’t stock, but this should be close to the stock height, and the shaker seals well, shakes, hood closes, etc.

When I did the LS swap on my 76, the shaker didn't shake haha. The stock LS1 cam was too tame to even move the engine.

Thats why you need a good coat of wax.

Still not sure I’m following. So I posted a photo to help another forum member with shaker fitment, and you jumped in to point out imperfections in my paint job?

I could be wrong but I didn’t take that as the intent at all. Plus I don’t even see any imperfections

Ha, the imperfections are certainly there, and that’s the only reason I can think of for the “but aaargh...paint!” comment. Just curious and trying to get clarification.

Ah! Haha, I knew there was something I wasn’t getting! Yeah the pic makes it look like kind of a dangerous situation. You can’t see it, but the metal parts of the tools are actually covered in masking tape.

Yes, I wasnt knocking the paint. I figured Wallington was referring to the steel tools sitting directly on the painted surface, hence my comment. Hope you didnt take my post the wrong way.

I removed the thick stock seal, and replaced with a very thin ~3/8” seal and pushed the shaker as high as possible.

Not at all! Your point was well taken, and I do happen to have a good wax job on there. Just wasn’t on the right wavelength to catch the meaning.
