Here comes the snow
« on: January 27, 2022, 10:40:52 PM »
News Weather people are going crazy on all channels here in the Boston area.  We’re being threatened with a 2 ft snow storm on Saturday.  Has the potential to be the largest 24 hour snowfall on record.  Oh boy!

I am not looking forwards to any snow... Apparently it's a blizzard or bombogenesis (first time hearing that term) and it is being compared to the blizzard of 78 (30" of snow).

The difference is that this storm is supposed to drop the 2 ft in 24 hrs (7 pm tonight to 7 pm tomorrow).  ‘78 took a couple of days to complete.  Either way it’s a royal PITA

Even though I live in Illinois, I was in the Southboro area for the snow of 1978 attending a training class. Almost got stuck on route 9 where the Semi’s couldn’t get over the hills. Some of my coworkers stuck in there cars were rescued by snowmobiles and spent a couple nights sleeping on gymnasium floors. I made it back to my motel, after a couple of days they started running out of food. For days only emergency vehicles were allowed on the roads. When they finally started clearing the hotel parking lot a front end loader accidentally cut off part of a car’s roof, the snow had drifted that high. The operator didn’t know there was a car buried there. An event stuck in my mind like Chicago’s storm in 1967.

Sorry for the hijack!

Current report! Top of the Ches. Bay, snowing pretty good right now. I live a couple of miles north of I-95 which is typically a dividing line for the weather. We usually get it worse, but this time they are saying south and east will bear the brunt. We are right on the line between 3-6, and 1-3. Time will tell.

Good Luck Jack, stay warm and safe.

I could potentially (yes literally) be up to my sack in snow.

I'm not too pleased.

That's impressive.  It looks like Boston itself may be more like 18" on the map, but still.

So far so good, the snow is not bad but the wind is (40MPH) so a lot of snow drifts.

Just finished plowing and half way through one of the shear pins broke and it got jammed in there pretty good, maybe need to drill it out but at least I was able to finish the driveway using one blade.

That stinks Jack. We are really cold but not enough snow worth shoveling. Its supposed to be in the high 40's mid week on so it will all be melted anyway. I used to keep a bag of those shear pins in my truck when I plowed commercially. I learned that the first time they broke and I had to shovel a thousand feet of sidewalk by hand whilst looking at the broke down blower!

We got a little over 2ft here. That was all bare grass behind the truck less than 24hrs ago.

Well now we (Northwest Ohio, southern Michigan) are going to get it allegedly. Been a fairly mild winter so far. I think I last drove my T/A on December 22nd before they started putting salt down. It did turn cold within the last few weeks and we got 2” of snow or so that’s stuck around. Wednesday into all day Thursday this week though they’re calling for a good storm. One local station is calling for 12”+, another is a bit less conservative and calling for 10”-16” with a third local station pulling all of the stops and saying 12-18”. We shall see. It’s not uncommon but not a yearly thing either.

I wonder too. They upped our expected possible totals for that storm to 22” and I think we ended up with about 12” give or take a few.

It was 58 on Saturday, I washed the truck. Sunday it was 30 and snowed 2inches. 19 currently  (and I ran out of oil).
Looks like the average for next week will be in the upper 40's.

Yesterday's high was 19 and night low was 1 degree, today's high is 27 but feels like -2. Not sure how I've been surviving this New England weather but this is getting old... or maybe I'm just getting old.

Single digits last week, and 68* today.  Low tonight of 48*, they are saying.  Down to 21* by Friday.  Still better than your 19* and 1* LOL
