Trans Am Story

My well pump expansion tank gave up the ghost. I had the plumber at my house this afternoon making repairs. He saw my car in the garage and told me that he had a trans am at one time. We got to talking Trans Ams, he said his was white with a blue bird. I told him that was my all time favorite colour for a Trans Am. He then went to say he bought the car from the original owner that received it as a graduation gift, hmmmm, got me to thinking. On a whim I asked for the name of the seller, lo and behold it was my cousins car. I had a soft spot for firebirds/trans ams since moms '67 400, But when my cousin bought this car in 1981 that sealed the deal for me. I just HAD to have a white Trans Ams, and if it had blue trim that much the  better. I loved this car. I have often thought of this White Trans Am from my past wondering if it was still stashed in my cousins garage someplace, or what had become of it. The plumber said he sold it after a number of years to a guy in the next town a state over, then that guy sold it again and he is pretty sure it got parted/scrapped. Such a shame to what was a beautiful automobile.

Incredible, your plumber purchased your cousin’s car. Sadly you now know the fate of the car you longed to find. I would love to know after 40 years what percentage of generation II Firebirds are still around, my guess is less than 10 percent, maybe less than 1 percent.

Something tells me someday you will own a white TA with a blue bird. Even if you can’t find one that came that way, it’s not that hard to make one.

Cool story Kerry!

Over the last few years, whenever I had to visit the DMV I would chat up the clerk and try to get them to look up the status of my first Firebird, a 1970 which I sold in '84. Since this is California they don't provide much info but around 5 years ago they told me it was still registered. Last time I checked was probably 2-3 years ago and they said it wasn't in the system anymore so I'm assuming it got scrapped. RIP my little red Firebird.

Larry, the 'story car' was a twin of yours.  The original owner is actually my second cousin but we were always really good friends. Lived and still live in the same town but I have only seen him a couple of times in the last 20 yrs. The plumber I use is a friend of the family that has been doing my work for years. It was one of his employees that started the conversation. I suppose we have all changed a bit over 40 years. After we were talking cars, and he said the name of the guy (my cousin) he bought it from he then told me his name. Although he has been on my jobs before I never ask peoples names. Turns out this guys brother and myself graduated together and I knew both of them as well. His cousin grew up across the street from me as a kid.
