Mallory Distributors

 While rummaging through my junk today, I came across my old (new) Mallory dual point distributor. Bought it in the mid 70s, and it has a 4 lobe cam, which was the selling point for me. It has very little miles on it, and it worked fine for my Goats. It got packaged away so many years ago, I've lost count.

 P/N 2558001. Thought it was labeled a "Rev-Pole" dist., came with a huge coil, and an under the dash panel, housing a  sw (and a little blue lite) to bypass a resistor, and provide a full 12 volts to the coil, for a "hotter" spark. (Never really proved worthwhile to me, when in that mode). Anyway, the cap was flat in design, and you had to connect the wires to some nails built into the cap, which was retained with a couple screws. I don't have the cap anymore, and went looking for Mallory stuff. Found out they were bought by MSD around 2015, then MSD, has now been bought by Holley.

Whew...So my question to you fine gentlemen, does anyone know if a cap is still available for this dist. ? It has low miles, and I'ld like to use it, if possible. Any info is appreciated.

I remember the type of Mallory cap you describe. Around 1970 I purchased a Dodge Coronet RT. It had a bad factory dual point distributor so I purchased a Mallory dual point to replace it. I recall a couple of screws on top of the distributor. You had to insert all the wires then tighten the two screws on the cap, clamping all the wires. It was kind of a pain, but I guess held the wires tight in the cap.

I googled the part number you mentioned and came up with this listing from Summit as being no longer available.


Notice they show a more conventional type of cap. So it is possible a latter style cap will fit your distributor. I have seen lots of Mallory caps listed online. If you can find someone with a Mallory parts book you might be able to find a newer style cap that would work on your distributor.

I was brought to that same Summit Ad. (Not available). And as I thought about the Rev-Pole a little more, I'm pretty sure it was on my 69, when I sold it in the 80s. I'm now thinking this distributor came from my current 73 T/A that I drove up from Tex. in 86. It had a rebuilt 350 when I brought it home, and it had a crappy aftermarket cam, and think it had this dist. in it. Which if I remember correctly, it had a std cap. And now that I look at your Summit photo, and have this dist. in my hand, can see the spring clamps that hold the cap in place. Don't remember them on the Rev-Pole. I'm still glad to see it has a 4 lobe cam, and not an 8 lobe. Wonder if E-bay would have anything for it?

I see E-bay has the std Mallory cap, new, (in red) for $30. Wonder how much of a mark-up that is? At least it's still available.
