'76 black verses '76 LE.
« on: October 07, 2021, 10:05:02 AM »
I am trying to determine the differences of hood bird colors between a standard '76 black T/A and a '76 LE.
I am pretty sure they are different, but I can't seem to find a better description of specific colors.
Or some side by side color pictures would help too.
Any ideas where to look?
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.

See if this helps you out. This site used to have a better description and photos that I can’t find now. Maybe they’re there somewhere still.

I think this is good:

https://www.stencilsandstripes.com/product/1975-76-pontiac-trans-am-hood-bird-decal-kit/

Read on down toward the bottom.

He refers to one of the colors as "mustard" on a black car, and SE's had two - tone gold.  And he says "Gold outline/yellowish color accent with black body was used 1976 thru 1978.  NOTE: Black cars during the 1976-78 years used black vinyl with the colors screen printed on the material to avoid the seeing the adhesive of the decals against the black paint color."

Here's a picture of the non-SE from their 1977-78 page, but the car is earlier, and I think they sell this same bird maybe 73-78.  Don't hold me to that.

The S/E didn't have anything "yellowish".

Thanks for the responses. I was able to get my LE next to a friend's black T/A over the weekend, and it appears all they did was reverse the dark and light golds for the two different hood birds.
My bird was applied a year ago, and his was about six or seven years ago, so some minor color difference may have occurred, but looked that way to us. Mine was from PG, but he does not remember where his was from.

This makes the colors look different, compared to the two cars I had side by side. I think the golds are just reversed between T/A and LE.
