Carmine Red Carpet
« on: September 20, 2021, 05:41:59 PM »
Hi - Looking to order carpet for a 79 Trans Am with carmine / red interior. Does anyone have experience with the correct red for the carpet? Stockinteriors.com has the available choices made by ACC:

-825 Maroon
-815 Red
-8293 Bright Red
-835 Firethorn

I assume its 815 Red which is the same option listed on YearOne's site whom also carries ACC carpet? Any first hand experience appreciated!

The best way to approach the color issue is to get free samples from the vendor.  This is how I've done it in the past.  Unless they specifically call out the GM color code 74, there is no way of knowing for sure that it is the correct red.

That sounds like a good approach and wish I hadn't thrown the carpet away so fast...It was full of rodent droppings so didn't really think twice. There might be some pieces underneath the seat belts I can compare too as well if no one else has ordered from the above suppliers.

Will be sure to post my selection once determined along with some pics if helpful.

Did you remove the console? There was a nice original hunk under the mounting bracket in my 79. Also not too faded as its away from the sun there. I have been on an impossible quest looking for carpet for my tata for the last year. One thing I have found is that most of the suppliers are more than willing to share sample pieces. Warren is spot on.

Yes- I removed the console too but I have not removed the seat belts; there is still some small pieces there for comparison though.

I also ordered ~4 different samples from stockinteriors as suggested and will post the results.

I ordered one, I will try to find the receipt.  I might have filed that.

[Edit] I did, and I ordered from Classic Industries back in 2010; they called it Carmine (clever of them).  Their item number was K22029.  So I don't know what color ACC called it.  I noticed that Classic Industries today has something they call "Firethorn" and they don't have this K22029 anymore.

I received the samples as shown in the pic with the original being in the middle for comparison.
Top left is 8293 Bright Red / Top Right is 835 Firethorn
                                  Original
Bottom Left is 815 Red / Bottom Right is 825 Maroon.

However when I went to order the actual carpet with the thicker cut pile and mass backing, the numbers are different. It was still from ACC but 1016A Red as shown in the other pic. I guess not all colors are available with mass backing and being molded. The color though (1016a) is almost a perfect match to the sample I had from the car that was hiding behind the seat belt bolts.

Hope this helps others and save them some trouble.
