Kerry started a movies thread a while back, I think it's a good idea to share good suggestions here.

I use Amazon Prime (and sometimes Netflix) but here is one that I saw last week - Unhinged staring Russel Crowe - I give it 5 stars and recommend watching.

I've heard that Safe is good - will most likely watch tonight.

Not including any movies with sequels (Star Wars, Back to the Future, Clint Eastwood westerns, etc.) My top 3 would be as follows: 1. It's a Wonderful Life, 2. Shawshank Redemption, 3. Unforgiven.

Watched Safe yesterday... it was ok and your typical action movie.

My preference is old stuff, the black and white kind

I love anything Hitchcock, "The Bank Dick" with WC Fields is one of my favorites. Thin Man series is another favorite. Not too many movies made after about 1960 spark a lot of my interest. I havent seen a new movie that I want to go out of my way for in a long time. 80's slasher films, Friday the 13's, Halloween's, stuff like that are on my good list but I dont care for the new stuff. Too bloody and psychotic for my taste. I have about the same taste in TV. IMO not much that was made after about 1970 that I watch on a regular basis. My wife gives me a hard time about being an Old Man.

There's a long thread on this at Garage Journal and a lot of people listed "No country for old men" as a favorite movie. Surprised me. I had never seen it, so I watched it. It is pretty good. I have mostly seen the comical side of the Coen brothers. On average their movies are brilliantly made. If there's any theme there I guess it's an extreme lack of principle.

Old movies:
I like old movies but I've dang near seen them all, all the good ones. Was talking to a friend about black and white Noir a month ago and I talked him into watching "Double Indemnity". I watched it myself too; seen it about 4 times. I saw one the other day for the first time; "The woman in the window". I'd never heard of it, and now I don't remember why I watched it. It had a lot of stuff in it hat was funny to me without really meaning to be.

Double Indemnity is a great movie. For the Noir category, 'The Third Man' is great!

Third man is certainly good. My wife and I make a slight effort to watch Orson Welles movies that we'd never seen, and I can say that I also enjoyed "Touch of Evil" which was the first movie of his 2nd career in Hollywood. He fell out with the studio and I get the impression they removed some of the gimmicks that he wanted in it, but it's very good. I started watching "the magnificent ambersons" but it's pretty slow and I haven't quite made it through that one.

For car guys here is something sort of interesting: "The Young In Heart", Selznick picture, not a dark picture. This is the picture where the grandad in a family of con artists gets a job selling cars and the dealer sells phantom corsairs. It has some hilarious car salesman talk in it and of course the car is fabulous. They sped up the film so that test drives are like 150 mph on little french farm roads. That is not the main plot. The main plot is of course the main characters fall in love and all that regular stuff.

If you're looking for a relaxing, not too over the top action movie to watch then Nobody with Bob Odenkirk would be a good choice. Good action, properly paced, good comedic timing, no woke silliness and Christopher Lloyd wielding a shotgun! There's even a chase scene with an old school Challenger.

Edit: literally just rewatched Nobody with my old man. It is over the top action but still a lot of fun. My Dad is a John Wayne guy and doesn't like John Wick type of action movies but he did enjoy Nobody.

Anyone run into a movie that you loved years ago but don't like today? For example, I re-watched Wayne's World 1 & 2 a few weekends ago; in my youth, I loved these movies but today they were meh at best. Clerks and many of the Kevin Smith features are more examples for me.

x2 with 737driver. Blazing Saddles is one of the greats. Most of Mel Brook's repertoire is pretty good. He was also an Army combat engineer and de-armed land mines during WW2.

Have to agree with Nexus too. Conan is one of the best sword and magic movies ever. The new one was ok but Arnie did it best.

I’d also like to throw “The Big Lebowski” out there. It is one movies I can still watch a bunch of times and still love it!

TCM played all Alfred Hitchcock all last weekend. DVR'd a few. Plenty of good stuff to watch over the next couple of weeks now.

Bullet is on this afternoon on TCM. I know there may not be a lot of love for mustangs here, but it really is a good movie, and after watching you have to admit the car is pretty Bad@@@. I was kinda turned off last year with all the hype when the car went to auction but if you can forget about that, its a good way to spend a couple hours staying cool inside during the hottest part of the day.

At the time, I guess that was viewed as the greatest chase to date, but you do want to laugh when he passes that same volkswagen 4 times. Overall, I agree, well worth the watch.

Porkys is a lot of fun to watch. Some cool old cars as well. Its been awhile since I saw it (actually saw it at the theatre when it came out) but I think one of the guys had a Jag, and Porky drove a Packard.

I don't mind cc as it helps keeping the volume down. But I don't enjoy watching movies with subtitles... too much work

Finished up early for the day and waiting for an afternoon appt., turned the boob tube on and lo and behold 'Larceny Inc.' is on. Great Edward G Robinson movie. And to relate to TAC, a young Jackie Gleason has a brief part.

If anyone feels like watching a very bad movie with a lot of stars, watch Machete... its got to be one of the worst movies ever made.

I cant remember if thats a Tarantino movie. I saw it once and thought it was quite entertaining. I think Tarantino's movies are hit and miss. I like some, some I think are horrible. Death Proof is pretty good. And Kill Bill movies are good.

Saw another OK movie but had some great cars in it. 'Drive a Crooked Road'. Film Noir from 1954, starring Mickey Rooney as a would be race car driver. In the beginning of the movie he works as a mechanic in a foreign car garage. Lots of cool old stuff in the garage. Movie was good, not great!
