BAD squeaking over any little bump - Coil Isolators?
« on: August 12, 2021, 03:57:11 PM »
I've replaced almost my entire front end suspension and put in lowering springs. Now, I'm suffering a BAD squeak over any bump in the road. Seems to be isolated to the drive side but it's driving me crazy. All grease fittings have been lubed, poly bushings/end links have been greased per recommendations. I'm at a loss!

The next thing on my list is to take out the coil spring and ensure it's clocked correctly. My 78 did not come with coil isolators, but should I consider either greasing the coils OR installing isolators?

Can you duplicate the noise with the car parked and bouncing the front nose? I have never heard of anyone having to grease springs. Is it possible the noise is coming from the upper or lower control arm bushings. Since you just had the entire front end apart is everything tight? More than once after a front end alignment I have seen lose bolts on the upper control arms where the shims are drawn to the subframe.

Yes, I can duplicate with bouncing the nose... control arms could be a culprit. Probably the only thing I haven't checked... as it's the only things I haven't gotten to yet. Will go out and check

They would be the first thing I'd check. Are they rubber or poly? Even when greased, poly seems to find a way to squeak there as they are used in a twisting, rotating motion rather than a compression style which it is more suited.

What I do in a case like this is to soak down the suspected bushings one at a time with penetrating oil.  When the squeak stop then you found the culprit.
