Hood Bird
« on: August 02, 2021, 10:15:50 AM »
Hey everyone.

Glad the site's back up and running.  :-)

Regarding the hood bird for the second gen trans am's, are there any places other than phoenix graphics that does them?

I've always wanted one on my Trans Am, and now that the paintwork is nice and new I'm keen to do it. The $349 however is a bit pricey when you're paying in our local currency unfortunately......and pretty much doubles up when you add shipping. I know they advertise on the forum and mean no disrespect.

I've thought about approaching local vinyl print shops and seeing if they can make one up, but....I'm a little hesitant. The bird is quite the focal point once placed and the last thing I'd want is something that doesn't look good.

Any suggestions on where else to look?

There was a guy that sold them on eBay, I got one a while back but the quality was not so good.

Thanks Jack. That's what I'm worried about. As much as it's expensive to get one of the proper decals....I'd rather not have a hood bird than mess up my new paint job. Keep saving them pennies I guess. :-)

Stencils and Stripes has been around a long time (like say over 30 years) but they do not advertise anywhere that I am aware of.

They're not going to be cheap.

Thats not who I was thinking of, I think it was Bennete Design, or something similar. Just did a quick search but couldn't find them.

If you get your decals from Phoenix Graphics look over the bird with a fine tooth comb.  A friend of mine replaced his three times before he was half satisfied with the quality.  Myself, I thought I had a hair under the decal and I was pretty upset on how I could have missed it.  When placing the freshly placed decal in the sun to remove the rest of the small bubbles I looked at that area more closely and found that the hair was actually on top of the graphics.  I was able to get the hair off but left a small impression in the paint on the decal.

Brand new and expensive paintwork deserves a matching quality decal. Skimp on the last detail and it can ruin all of them.
