HEI coil wires melted
« on: May 08, 2021, 07:58:40 PM »
I tried to fire up my car the other day and found out that I didn't have spark. I took off the coil cap and found the wires were melted. I've talked to a few guys that have a lot of experience and they have never seen this. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this?

Eeek...did you have anything apart prior, or since previous start. Similar things can happen if you've left a ground cable off or left something disconnected.

I've been doing a lot of work on the car, maybe that's what happened. I'm done with wiring now so I'll just put in a new coil and see how that goes.

Looks like high resistance to ground from the rust on the ground wire.
