Cool bikes. Was that the OCC guys? We had a run in with them at Daytona one year, total %$%$^%$^%.

Yes, the bike on the right was built by OCC. I briefly watched the show and thought Paul Junior had some real creative ability on his builds. But I got tired of stupid arguments, kicking in doors and throwing things around. Interesting enough Jay Leno who is a huge "bike enthusiast” had them build a bike for him that was introduced on the tonight show. For the most part Jay does not talk trash about anyone. At some point he said his bike built  by OCC was a piece of crap.

After a bit of work and figuring out the crazy capacitor and points wiring (no magneto) I was able to get it running. It still needs a bunch of work but pretty amazing it is running after sitting in a barn and a garage for 40+ years. Too bad every part is like $250 for this thing.

First time this bike has moved since 1980/81. I am trying to ride tune the points and adjust the decompresion stuff so the exhaust valve isn't open. I'll tell you, I don't know how you guys used these for transportation.  This thing isba beast to start. The compression is crazy,  10/1, 500 cc single. I only got it started twice. Once running it's actually pretty good, surprisingly.  Speaking of surprises,  I am shocked it runs at all often sitting for over 40 years with zero care.

Most of all the brit bikes I have are 500cc. All are (or at least at one point were easy to start). The restorer's motto is if it doesnt start by the 3rd kick something is wrong
As for compression, the '39 BSA Gold Star that I have is  the only bike that ever gave me trouble. The gold stars of that era were very special bikes. They were hand built and the motors had a special build for high performance. Not many were made that way. Even with a compression release I have a hard time getting it running.

Interesting.  I may be flooding it with the "tickling" of the carb. I have no idea how long to hold that down. The compresion even with the decompresion lever is huge. I can stand on the kick starter and it won't move. It is hard to get it over center without then making a revolution. I have adjusted that cable all over the place and where I have it now it is off when lose and it on when I pull it so, I think I'm good there. I did ~ the timing as it was backfiring and that made it run better but didn't seem to help the kick starting.

Anyway, thanks for the help!

Interesting article on it. The difficult starting and kicking it until next week is the part I can relate to.

Kerry, you were right. I replaced the coil and now it starts 1st or second kick.
