Wiring Harness 1980 Trans Am
« on: March 10, 2021, 10:37:12 AM »
Hello everyone,
I have am 1980 Trans Am with the motor out of the car.
Since the motor is out i will be re-painting the engine bay.
I unscrewed this wiring harness from the firewall and was wondering if these are available aftermarket?
I never had electrical issues before but this one is looking very dirty and cruddy so i would like to replace it.
Wondering if the harness and wires come in a kit?
Thanks

Yes, American Autowire sells reproduction wiring harnesses. https://www.americanautowire.com/
I got mine through Classic Industries.

Did you have a copy of the 1980 wiring pdf file?

Good question.  I am not sure.  Mike says he has "some" of the posts that were lost, so if that gets merged in I might have to do this again.

Getting back to the original question, the underhood wiring is certainly aged and heat affected, and so new would certainly look better and I think worth it on a restored car.  That stuff in the picture comes apart into two sections, the engine section and the "front light" section.  You might decide you only want to do part of it to save $200.  The engine part takes more of a beating usually.

Another source comparing to american autowire is lectriclimited.com

I used to know which one was the actual manufacturer, but I forgot.
