So if the site is truly starting over, now would be the time to upgrade to the latest version of SMF.  The one TAC is on is 9 versions old from 2014.  :-(

Plus a new hosting plan that supports image posting (attachments) would be awesome! Storage is a lot cheaper now than it was 10+ years ago.

Count me in if monetary contributions are needed. I would sell body parts if necessary to fund (car not human ).

The pics from topics can still be googled, the link to the forum just doesn't exist at present. I'm not sure if that means the photos are simply there as hosted elsewhere which still exists. I just posted several direct from a TAC google search into a topic below. But if it needs starting over from scratch, you really need to think if it's worth it.

Worth starting over? If need be my vote is yes. The amount of information these forums archive is unmatched by anything else in my opinion. Not to mention the camaraderie here. I belonged to a few wrangler and dodge truck forums before I bought my T/A and happened across Hitman’s site. I was surprised at how much more welcoming all of the Firebird forums I’ve frequented have been compared to other forums I’ve seen.

And don’t even get me started on Facebook.

Don't take this wrong, but as a new guy I have been keeping a low profile on this. Im only speaking for myself. I have been on many car forums for nearly 20 years now and this one is by far the most unreliable. I would seriously do a go fund me and try to move it to another host like zenforo where nastyz28 is. The problem for a guy like me who is knee deep in a heavy $$ build, with little knowledge, really leans hard on a forum for past technical topics and pictures. I have been sidelined for days because I cannot find alternative information online. Its quite frustrating. I would be glad to contribute to see this fixed.

And what the hell... yeah the censorship we are facing is a very dangerous place. It doesn't end well for either side I'm afraid. My old man works for the largest radio station/entertainment conglomerate in the country and ownership sent out a memo... if you EVEN MENTION the topic that doesn't align with the supreme ruler on the election, it is instant termination and cancellation. Every major station in the country has been silenced.

Good Times.

Two things to remember:

1) The forum is archived and backed up, unless there was a catastrophic failure, and

2). No politics!  We’ve been down that road before.  It didn’t end well, so we don’t do it now.

What we have here is a perfect storm that has been brewing for a year now and I did not see it coming.  The instability in the forum was due to the legacy version of mysql my server was running.  I could not upgrade it due to the age of the server image and the version it was running.  The cost of running the server just as it is has mostly kept me from upgrading to the next gen.  There are key sponsors on the site that have been here for the last 20 years....that support us for the sake of supporting us, but the others have dwindled off when they can track sales back to their sponsorship.  Google ads have been keeping the ship afloat.  That is just one part.  The other was the backups that were going to a machine I have running back at the office.  I work from home now, so I'm not there to keep an eye on it.  Little did I know, but blocks were put in place to keep it from downloading that type of file.  That one is on me.

I have a backup of data I'm uploading now, but I can't be sure how far it covers until the restore is complete.  I'll let you know.

Once I know I have exhausted my efforts I'll decide what to do next.  The TAC family has been great and have contributed over the years, but I've never wanted to ask for help.  I will probably have to dump the table again to do a restore, so don't be surprised.

It'll be almost impossible to get back to what TAC once was if we had to start all over. Decreased membership and viewing has slowed this place down a lot. If we start with a blank slate, I'm afraid it would remain pretty blank.

Hopefully it can be restored.

Dear MrBandit,

First let me thank you for allowing me to be a member of this great community TAC. I have been a firebird lover most my life and a TAC member since last May. I am unable to put into words the amount of enjoyment and useful information I get from this site. I appreciate all you do and have done to keep this site up. If I read between the lines it sounds like you need a new server and possibly upgraded software to alleviate the instability problems. Several members including myself have offered to donate to this worthy cause. I don’t know how many members or how much they are willing to contribute, but I think it would be worth looking into. Would you be interested if we could start a GoFundMe or just contribute directly to TAC with maybe a special “Help TAC fund”? Do you have any idea what dollar amount you would need to resolve the problems?

This suggestion is just an offer of help and not meant to put any pressure on you. If there is anything members can do to help you, please let us know.
