OER Tach burnt up
« on: September 02, 2020, 09:42:17 AM »
I replaced the tach. 6 years ago on 1978 trans am . with a new OER Tach. some reason the Tachometer circuit board has burnt up. looks like a resistor and a diode maybe.  I've checked the 12 volts  and the pulse from dist with a light both seem ok. Has anyone had this happen before? what can cause this? Thanks!

OER was making these tachs 6 years ago?  I didn't realize they were around that long.  Sorry I can't think of any reason why some parts on the board would burn up, but if you find out what happened, I'd love to know...I have an OER 8k tach for my 79, but it hasn't been used yet.

I can't suggest anything. Occasionally my tach doesn't work, restart car and it's awake again. Could be gremlins in the electricals and not the tach. Earlier factory models had a fuse in the tach harness, later models lost this bit probably plugged in to run through one still. Do you have high powered ignition or anything non stock?
