Finally got a Trans Am!
« on: May 21, 2020, 09:56:54 AM »
Never felt so good to delete the "Some day..." script under my avatar. Lol

I just picked up this super well bought 1979 400/4-Speed up in north/central Fla for just 20k. Best of all, it's a hardtop just how I like it.

86,000 miles.

Original Starlight black car with WS6/W72, original motor, deluxe interior, working AC, and even the uncommon CB radio and electric antenna. Came with PHS and build sheet verified that it started life as a southern car in Georgia, went to NC, and then throughout ownership went to Wyoming before coming to FL. Whatever rust I could find on this car is just mild surface rust - it's a solid beauty and drives like a dream. A lot of the underhood components and accessories were replaced so it operates very well and holds great oil pressure and temp. New springs and new brakes also makes it ride nice and stop well. It's also very original since it still has a lot of components that are usually ripped off including smog equipment and even the carburetor heat riser hose.

Definitely something to enjoy on nice days while I go through nursing school, wrench on a bit, maybe give it a detail since it is entirely presentable for local shows as is... but then when I'm all settled into a career she's becoming a show car.

It's around a million miles from my last Trans Am I had back in 2008. That thing was a disaster.

Some pics:

Good to be part of the flock!

That’s a good looking car. Nice and clean all over. And for a fair price I feel. I certainly wouldn’t mind having it. Congrats!

Been there, man! Just keep pressin' on.

Thanks everyone. She is sleeping right now - had to rent out a storage unit since I don't have a garage at my house, but at least she's indoors.

Wanna go for a drive, but we are entering OUR crappy time of year here in FLA where it rains almost every day.  :-( :-( :-(

Congrats on your beautiful T/A,

Not easy to find a clean unmolested car, especially with the performance engine. Really a sharp looking highly optioned car, you did well. From the pictures it looks like you have a silver bird hood decal? A friend of mine had one same color combination back in 1979, but it had the Olds 403 motor.

Enjoy!

Thank you, and yes it does have the argent graphics package and the car is definitely repainted. This color scheme hits a nostalgic spot for me since they're the colors that were on a 1979 T/A that was for sale down here in Miami back in 2006. It was at a buy-here-pay-here for $7900 no more than six miles from my house, and it's what motivated me to get into the job market so I could get it. I was 19 at the time, I think. It sold quickly and got away. I remember the interior had lombardy hobnail and smelled like cigarettes - gave the car character.

I used to want a black car with the red/orange graphics, but sometimes nostalgia overtakes personal taste, so I've grown to love the silver graphics.

Nice Bird.  I love how you say "just" $20K.  Probably worth it.  I don't know the economy in FL.  I know here in NEPA, $20K is a LOT of dough.

Have fun with your new toy!

The economy is garbage here lol.

Just 20k because of what a car with such options goes for. Granted, it's no SE but it's a solid, presentable W72 4-Speed that drives like a dream, and with a lot of originality to boot. The market may have dropped on these cars since Corona, though, so maybe their value isn't as strong, so maybe the jury is still out on whether or not I was ripped off in light of the current economy. Still, I'm happy and it's worth every penny to me!

I think you got a great deal on it. Considering the shape and overall specs (400/ 4speed). To add ,it seems like everything is in good working order, you got it less than classic blue book says.
I’m sure you will have a lot of fun with it.

A car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.  If you felt it's worth the price, then you got a good deal.  Grats on your new toy.  4-speeds are the only way to go.
