fully loaded , has 4 wheel disc brakes , does this mean it is a ws6   also looks like it has a big front sway bar

I originally thought all Turbo cars were WS6 cars, but turns out that all Turbo cars were fitted with 4-Wheel Disc, which was just something included in the WS6 pack but was still available as it's own seperate option "J65 front and rear disc". I think it's only the rear sway bar that is beefier on WS6. And unless you see paperwork or a Buildsheet saying it is a WS6, it's not a WS6. It could just be a T/A they swapped WS6 gear into. It's all speculation until you get proof. It's not stamped on the cowl nor found in the VIN. Fully loaded implies it has every factory option so I'd assume it does have WS6

Max has it covered well, but here's also the reply I left at the PY forums too:

WS6 has 4 wheel discs as part of the package, but 4 wheel discs were available separately, without WS6 too, with code J65. So, you could have 4 wheel discs without having WS6.

Plus, I've read that it's likely that all Turbo Trans Ams came with 4 wheel discs, whether the car had WS6 or not. So, that's another case where having 4 wheel discs doesn't necessarily mean the car has WS6.

The front sway bars are all the same size, 1.25", so it's not larger than any other. The rear sway bar is the one that's normally larger with WS6 being 3/4" compared to 5/8" for standard. That would be another clue to whether it's WS6 or not.

I read a recent post where I believe somebody said they found a 5/8 rear bar on a WS6 81, instead of a 3/4 rear bar. That might have been a case of them thinking it was a WS6 car due to 4 wheel discs, when it could've just had the J65 option without WS6.

Another visual clue to WS6 is 2 extra braces installed on the front lower control arm mounting points, like in this picture:

great info TY!   i never thought about it like that.  i mean that when i saw a 4 wheel disk break TA i was automatically thinking WS6 but its true that it could just be a Trans Am with disk break option.   Learning about the TA every day more and more ...i love it!

pretty sure the WS6 uses a 12:1 steering box instead of the 14:1....even harder to verify that.

Thought the braces were on all 79-81's. First thing you have to remove to add headers....lol

I've done research on that. The 78-81 ws6 steering box is 14:1 constant ratio. The standard box was a variable ratio, 15.0-13.0:1, 16.5-14.3:1 overall(whatever overall means?), which is a little slower of course.  The 12.7:1 boxes didn't come out until 82-up.

And the regular 79-81 TA's I've seen didn't have the braces. I have 3 79 TA's without, and another 79 with ws6 that came with them. I like to add the braces to my cars, since it seems like a good idea.

And FWIW I am in the agreement with the original post that all 1981 Turbo T/A's had rear disc.  That's what the option lists say and based on the population that seems to hold up.  You wouldn't expect that, at least I didn't.

Very early '80 car? Was it generally very bare in terms of options?

A lot of the turbos were pretty fancy.  Maybe most of them.
