Nosecone support bracket 78
« on: February 12, 2020, 02:07:47 AM »
Does anyone have a photo of how the nose support bracket mounts to the radiator support upright on a 77/78 model? Other years are similar, different shape brackets. Mainly if the locating bolts use a larger than standard self-contained washer to cover the cut outs.

No pictures but on my 79 they were not oversized like that. They were only about 3/4 in washers.  Maybe someone with a mostly original car will have a better answer.

Sure - I would be glad to snap some pictures for you - everything on mine is the original.

The nose is on the car - so tell me from which angle the pictures would be most useful and I'll do my best.

Hi Chris, nothing urgent. Was mainly interested in the washer/head size and how much they covered the opening. Mine was only mocked up years ago and I added the larger washers but they aren't original.

Does this help?

Looks like I replicated what yours looked like lol

The originals didn't quite cover the entire hole the way I wanted to provide the grip that I felt I needed on the core support vertical bracket to nose bracket where there is a lot of adjustment. I added additional extra thick fender washers (one top and bottom) as a precaution - you get the idea I'm sure..........

I tend to over engineer/think things so those extra washers probably weren't necessary but they can't hurt.

At the nose itself I didn't feel the need to add any additional washers.

Seems 70-81 owners are hard to come by, until they want something.

Also, I'm not making excuses here but it is winter here in the USA and anyone with a completed car probably has put it away and has limited access to it.

I will try to get some pics this weekend, its supposed to be warm enough to take the car out for a spin. Mine is not 'put up for the winter' but its def. easier to get things opened up and pics when its a bit warm, plus I have been either on the couch or bed for the last week sick.

Haha Not quite a bite but yeah. Yes Cyber, you have what I have which isn't original. Winter is enough of a reason to move, I'll drive or work on my car when I decide, thanks!
No rush, Kerry, was more the quiet that was annoying me. I often reply to posts I only have partial answers to and buy time until others chime in.
Actually, don't worry about it. Thanks guys.
