Nocturne Blue and where to buy touch up paint?
« on: October 29, 2019, 10:32:43 AM »
Where would you guys suggest as a source for touch up paint?  My 1979 TA is Nocturne Blue, I think it's GM Code 29 which was both GM Dark Blue and Pontiac Nocturne Blue.   (Pls correct me if I'm wrong here)

Looks like this color is  PPG #3121.  Possibly Duplicolor #EBGM03937

Someone on the Camaro side asked a similar question:

What do you guys think?  Do you get your touch up paint custom mixed? From Auto Parts Stores?  Or does the Duplicolor line of paints work for you?

Bring the car (or a part off it you want the color to match) to your local auto paint place and have them shoot it with their analyzer & make the paint.  They can make small amounts. I have small amounts made to paint mirrors and what not.

For those of you with Nocturne Blue paint, I can confirm that Duplicolor #EBGM03937 is the correct touch up paint for our cars.  It goes on a bit light, but darkens as it dries.  It's expensive, but looks great!

as stated an auto paint store will scan it with a digital camera and for 10 bucks make you a small bottle for touch up chips, etc.

i have done it hundreds of times and usually comes out nice.

It's potentially 40 years old or touched up and resprayed already using someone else's interpretation of the correct mix. No reason the 'correct' paint will actually match, but it's a good start. It depends if touching up chips or having a panel repainted to match etc.

Another source is 'Automotive Touch-Up Paint'. an online search should bring them up. You put in the specs for your car and the colours will pop up. I used them with my 79 and the paint matched the original spot on. They offer from pints, spray bombs up to gallons.
